Are you suggesting pick number 3 because he won't be there at 40?

Looks like he could be the next Cyril Rioli. Would definitely slot into our midfield/wing nicely.

I hope we look at this kid, just saw his highlight reel and I am very impressed.

Could he be the X factor we need? I could see him complimenting Brayshaw Salem Viney and Tyson like a charm.

Amazing skills and awareness, but he's exactly what we DON'T need at this stage.

We need a midfield, solid bluechip mids.

Could easily be every bit as good as Cyril Rioli though.

Sqw an article saying he is in the mix, not sure where.

Can anyone elaborate on his weaknesses? He doesnt look afraid of a contest/hard tackle from the look of that highlight reel.

Probably not what we need BUT some club is going to get a very good pickup. He looks sharp.

Holly [censored] those highlights looked good! Notice how he only ever went for goal when it was the best option? He is exactly what we need! I'd be happy if we are seriously thinking about this kid!

why? we're not getting him...at least...I hope not...

No offence, but WTF kind of sentiment is that?

His only weaknesses on what I have seen is that he goes missing for long periods in the game and can lakc desire to apply forward pressure, defensively which is where I see the big difference between he and Rioli.

I have seen times where Pickett will just take the game on with great effect and you think this kid is something, but there are a lot of Dayle Garlett moments where you get the lack of desire to get to a contest or apply forward pressure.

Pickett has great acceleration and can hit the ball at pace, when not being caught flat footed no concerns with his discipline or any off field issues, his family have been quite good with him keeping him focussed on footy and making sure he never strays.

Just MO probably not the right time for us to be taking someone like Pickett, 2 of Petracca, Brayshaw, Laverde, Lever before Pickett for mine

I think he'll be a fantastic little player, with real pace & a step thru traffic, run & carry to break the lines. & he hits targets. & he doesn't shirk it.

looks to work off half back as well to bring the ball up.

He obviously killed those under 16, but from what I saw of him in the under 18's he was underwhelming. He's small. Doesn't pack a lot of power like he showed in that 2012 vid and more outside.

I'd be wary about a first round pick at all, yet alone pick 3.

If we want outside silk I'd go with Laverde or Lachie Weller.

If we take Brayshaw I don't think he will give us a lot of run & carry, an area we are weak in IMO. to break the lines by foot. we are getting a little better with JKH, but not convinced.

Garlett is only for about 2 years, IMO to allow our kids time to develop. is this a quick fix whilst we grab another giving time to learn the ropes???

my choices for P-3 are Pickett or Laverde.

aside from the run & carry area, I like Lever as a Defender/Mid. One who I reckon could general our backline or hopefully be an inside ball winner. would love a Gary Ayers type in red & blue.

If there was a Harley Bennell or Daisy Thomas at pick 3 I'd be all for it. But I don't see Pickett at that level. What's best case scenario for him? Brad Hill? Laverde is interesting, but I'm not convinced by him. I'd have him in the mix for pick 3 but am more keen on the talls.

Brayshaw should give us a really nice complement to Jones, Tyson and Viney. Effectively he should take over from Cross in 12-24 months. And those 4 should be part of our centre square set ups for hopefully years to come. If they come on quickly and get some support from Michie/Riley/McKenzie/Harmes then we can redeploy Bernie Vince to more outside roles.

Speed and skill are vital. But only need to look at the grand final where Rohan and Jetta didn't touch the ball to see you have to win the ball first. It's ball winning and work rate that creates a lot of fast ball movement. The skills just make it flow.

As I said I'd love to take the line breaking beautifully skilled player with a top pick. Who knows what we will get from Lumumba, Matt Jones, Watts, Salem, Toumpas, Dom Barry, Kent and of course Billy Stretch who's probably a second round pick rated outside mid prospect. If we don't get a more outside mid type then I'd be hoping we find someone in our later ND picks or rookie picks to balance the list.

Watched the highlites=So what

He wont get away with half of that chit against grown men.

At the 46 sec mark of video, watch No25 for vic,AFL players wont be that nice.

Must admit i enjoyed the noise played over the top of video.Made me want to go out and graffitti something.

absolutely have to win the ball.... a non negotiable. any one who doesn't want to put the head over the ball in my mind should just not get a red'n'blue jumper in the first place.

now with that, IMO Pickett does go in, & does win his own ball. he's only a kid atmo... but I like his endeavor, pace, & skills. & smarts. He has the weapons to go far.

Laverde I haven't seen enough inspiring footage yet to sway me that he is better than pickett; he has the pace, & the height, but the videos leave a lot to be desired.

I haven't seen much footage of many kids at all.... I watched Pickett a few times over the course of the season, watched Lever's video, & McCartin & 2 Mtr Peter, Angus & Petracca...

none of the videos are really flattering IMO.

I agree I think we'll get good run from Lumumba & Kent,,, & Bail will back up again, but he is in his last Yr of contract for a reason. he's fringe.

I've just noted that Garlett is 25yrs... I thought I read somewhere he was 28. that changes things a bit.

really not sure about McCartin... I'm wary of using an early pick on a big guy, who has physically monster-ed the babies he has played against. is he good, or is he not?

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
