One thing is for certain -- anyone predicting that we'll take two (or three) first-round picks into the draft simply does not know how Paul Roos operates.

If negotiations for Dangerfield or GWS players fall through, expect something to shaken loose from the tree.

I think the hidden trade target is a GWS player.

A while ago I was informed by a reliable source they were targeting Cameron, I don't know how well that has gone.

I presume it's a deal of the pick 2 & 12 calibre for a Shiel/ Cameron or Treloar along with Frost.

Then pick 3 & 21 (or Toumpas) for Dangerfield.

Well that's my guess or something along those lines.

I believe we are entertaining a MAJOR bid for Dangerfield.... Somewhere in the area of close to $1m a year over possibly 5 or 6... Hence the thought about trading out JT to the Toigs....

The other thing that people need to take into account when mentioning the big Texan (although by all reports he is the heart and soul of Cow Land) is that he is BFF's with our man Bernie Vince!

The Goodwin and Bernie combination cannot and SHOULD not be underestimated when speaking of luring Cows to Demonland!

If Dangerfield wants to leave what exactly is it we are offering him that isn't worth him sticking out for the Crows for the year before getting to Geelong who now have so much salary cap room to offer him with Christensen leaving and Frawley not going there.

Doubt Tex would ever leave. Bernie will be back in Adelaide in 3 years time anyway.

GWS sounds more reasonable but Jaksch and JOR

No one wants to lose Trengove for just a draft upgrade. But at the same time I'm keen to give Jason Taylor and Roos' development a test. Drafting and developing is still our best shot at getting one of those magically draft periods that sets you up with 3 superstars and in 3 years time makes up a top 8 team without trying.

I'm hardly convinced 2, 3 and 12 gets us Franklin, Roughead and Lewis but now the draft is (somewhat) unhampered it might be our best shot.

It sounds all too right. Tyson last year and someone again this year from GWS who we all know love top 3 picks. I just think Treloar and Cameron may be pushing it.

What about 3 for and 12 for Daniel Rich and Lions first rounder, lions on trade 3&12 to pies for Beams?

So who from GWS do we relistically think we can get and want? Assuming we'd target a mid. I'll throw some names out there i think we can get:
Coniglio, Greene, Sheil, and Sumner.
Can't see any other midfielders we could get.

If we can convince them to come (long contract, big money, Roos and Melbourne) and tell GWS we can compensate them with a top pick, we could conceivably get any of the GWS blokes, Treloar included.

If we got Treloar I would die from happiness!

id jizz if it was sloane.

Favourite player outside of melb.

Love his workrate but IMO Treloar is just about ready to enter the elite bracket in the next 2 to 3 seasons, Shiel is also a gun. I believe Sloane has reached his ceiling

Gun, isn't he? I think Shiel would be next on my list, followed by Greene and then Coniglio.

Agreed. Treloar has the pace to take his game to Judd's level a couple of years ago. He's a natural ball winner too. He gets into the right places, makes good runs, uses the ball pretty well and can kick goals.

Yeah so much so that I ask myself why would GWS let him go, even for overs. Has to be a go home factor with him unless we went all out and give picks 3 and 4 which IMO i think may be worth it for him.

I would trade Pick 3, 23 & Trengove to Adelaide for Sloane, Walker & Pick 31. Is that asking too much? They keep there Pick 10.

I don't want Dangerfield. He is a player I would rather play against than with...

I wanted the Dees to draft Sloane when we had a chance. We passed on him.

I can see the line of thinking here. I did just say somewhere else that he could well turn into the next Judd, but I'm not keen on giving up two top picks for anyone. Carlton didn't for Judd. I think we're gonna get two players we're really happy with this week. Wouldn't it be great if Treloar was one of them? ;)

This makes no sense to me, but each to their own.

3, 23 and Trengove for Sloan, Walker and 31 sounds like something Adelaide might really go for. You should ask them, let me know how it goes..

I believe it is Dangerfield. I received a call earlier today from a mate who is connected to the Club as a Player Sponsor and he has put his reputation on the line and declared that as soon as the Pick 12 comes in it will be Dangerfield for Picks 2 & 12.

Effectively, Picks 2, 12 & 23 plus Jack Trengove for Dangerfield.

As I've said, I'm not prepared to give up pick 2. They can have pick 3 and we take Brayshaw, I still reckon saints don't know who they'll take.

By the way, 2, 12, 23 & Trengove is ridiculous for one player and I don't believe a word of it.

From what I've heard, Danger is happy to stay at the crows.

It's not 2, 12, 23 and Trengove. It's either 2 and 12, or 2, 23 and Trengove.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
