Played every match in 2014 and transformed into an impressive defender, after making the switch from attack early in the year. Howes rebound and drive out of defence was a highlight, as was his durability he played every match in 2014.

More impressive as a defender than a forward - not as flashy, certainly, but so effective.

Trust him more then about five other of our regular backs - Jetta and Dunn the only others as reliable to not be unreliable.

Prefer him as a forward but was very impressive down back this year. His versatility makes him much more of an asset. No longer a "one trick pony".

Howe was impressive when fwd. He misses too many tackles as a defender and its too easy. We need goalkickers !!!

His trade value will never be higher! Because trading players is like the stock market! Sell, sell, sell!

Not sure if he had ever player down back before this year, but his attack on the football was excellent. Having said that, he is far too loose and doesn't show enough respect to his opponents (eg Rhys Palmer) to be a full time defender and I hope he pushes forward again next season.

I've been a bit hesitant with the idea of returning Howe fwd. But his averages from this year are pretty much identical to his year in 2012

Very similar number of touches and marks, but more tackles and 34 more shots on goal.

Given that it's a no brainer...will be better for having had this year. 20 goals in 2012 with a dud team, might be a solid 40 from him with danger, Sloan, Viney kicking to our fwd line of Hogan, Tex, and Howe.

I wouldn't call it "demonland logic", but I'll absolutely say it, I think Howe should be put on the market, AT THE RIGHT PRICE.

He had a reasonable year, playing in the so called easiest position on the ground. He is one of very few players on our list with reasonable trade value. He still plays too loose as a defender, and is uncertain when to mark and when to spoil. I think there are far better half back flankers out there, which leads to me sending him forward.

He takes a screamer, more than any other player, but I wouldn't say he has set the world on fire as a half forward.

In my view, we overate Howe, and I feel the broader AFL community may do so more.

I would really love to know what Roos' thoughts are on JH, just so I know how close or far off the mark my thoughts are. I'm sure a number of people will reply with what they think what Roos' thoughts would be.

Howie had a solid season, and was reliable in defense. With chip moving on, I wonder if he will be moved back forward? Howie looks versatile, and I think it would be hard to trade him unless you got something really solid back.

He has had plenty of opportunities as a forward, and can do the all too occasional freakish thing. When put under tough physical defensive pressure however, he simply folds and never touches it. He is not and never will be a forward, doesn't matter how good a mark he is. Defensively he has to be accountable, and is better, and his athletic abilities suit him best to space, so halfback pushing through the wing is his only option.

Terrible set shot too. Much better as a defender long term - he'll learn to tighten up and reads the ball beautifully. For mine, a ready replacement for Rivers.

So, with the looming acquisition of Lumumba, where does this leave Jeremy?
