Mad Monday!

CBF reading this whole thread but I noticed a lot of people weren't so much offended by the fact they dressed that way, but that they posted the pic and how it went from there? What's that about?? If you think it's OK to go for laughs based around a theme of paedophilia then have a good look at yourself. It's completely wrong. Nothing to do with PC and we shouldn't loose sight of that just because it's 'Mad Monday'. Same standards apply across society, they're not different for those we put on a pedestal because they kick a footy.

Spot on diesel. Well said. Probably a good point to draw a line under this and close thread?

Agreed. I think this discussion has run its course and that seems a good summary..

"There is clearly something wrong with anyone who wasn't deeply offended by a Rolf Harris costume. Close thread."

Must be something wrong with me, then. Anyway, the MFC PR flack has put a statement in front of them and said, "Sign this". And we check out the weather in the next teacup.

Ha, I for one was always deeply offended by the real Rolf because he was always creepy beyond belief in my mind, though I always assumed it was a young boy thing.

Deeply offended by the dress ups? Hardly,... but deeply concerned and amazed at their stupidity.

lol..which part of that post presented the alternative view?

You know what, I don't care. Good summary. There is clearly something wrong with anyone who wasn't deeply offended by a Rolf Harris costume. Close thread.

Look at that straw man go! "Those hysterical people, losing their brains over it, going crazy all over the media!"

It was a dumbarse thing to to, lacking a basic grasp of sensitivity. It got a brief mention in media and hasn't really been run with or beaten up at all.

Even the criticisms on this thread have just said 'it was dumb and insensitive, they should cop their whack, apologise and do better in future'.

The only people losing perspective on it are the ones putting it into some kind of conspiracy theory about the evil leftist ABC climate-alarmist soccer-mum socialist Asian lesbian evolutionist latte-sipping thought police.

I'm not throwing around any labels of a PC brigade. That was HH.

It was dumb, no doubt, because it was done in the public eye. It warrants a talking to but I stand by a harsh punishment being overkill.

If it was within the confines of a private environment, some would not bat an eyelid, some would chuckle, and perhaps some would be offended to the extent being shown in this thread. But the concept itself of dressing up as Rolf Harris, to me, is not offensive, and I don't apologise for that view. It's a dirty old man with ridiculous dress sense being lampooned. It's not condoning what he has done. It's highlighting that he is someone worthy of ridicule.

There's my summary. One that wasn't captured in the "good summary" above.

Many will laugh and then again some who have had some experience with sexual abuse won't ?

Isn't the point that before you go and put yourself out into the public spotlight you may want to consider how a broad range of people will react to your attempts at humor ?

I understand black humor or humor that pushes the boundaries but your select your audience. Dressing up as they did, posting it on instagram was never going end happily Even with the constant education these players get, the message that are given to think about their actions, it is obvious that these two did not "think" at all.

The only thing they did wrong was forget just how much the media loves to fire up the public with mock outrage over nothing stories.

I'm sure the lesson has been learnt now though.

The Queen,British Paints ,the ABC and the BBC lived with it for decades.

Conversation is good .Light is good.Darkness just allows multi millionaires/the church and state's pedos to carry on.

Terlich's costume was topical and slightly amusing.

Harris was a govt employee,a tv personality working with kids,a connected elite in the English speaking world.

Georgie boys costume was generic enough to point the joke at the now legally proven guilty Harris.

To paraphrase Ricky Gervais

"Don't confuse the joke with the issue".

Ah Diesel! I just realized that you were using the acronym CBF (couldn't be... bothered). I thought you were having a go at me!

Must have been a long day for my good self!

Oh dear, posters on Demonland complaining about poor taste, can't have been on here for long

Maybe Terlich made a mistake, but he didn't kill anyone, move on, worse than the media some of the self righteousness being displayed here

If we had a female team and one of the players went dressed in very little, most of the male posters on here would be cheering from the sidelines

As for Harris himself, unfortunately these days, you can't be the dirty old uncle with the wandering hands after a bit to drink

Beg to differ.

Conclusion festivals in the Australian Football League (Australian football) can be compared with Christmas party are in top European football. It is in other words set for scandals.

Last year was fined Clinton Jones, St Kilda, after setting fire to a short man .

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag
