Yep I'd like someone to remind me of a Watts disposal that actually achieved something decisive.

Often,if he gets the ball 10 metres in space, he sends it on very nicely to someone else to do something with, but rarely if ever, does he find an option that is rolled gold and results in a score.

All of which are outnumbered by his near miss hand passes because someone was about to lay a hand on him.

I used to think I was obsessively hard on him,now I cant believe how much his tyres get pumped up by some supporters.

Yep too often his disposals amount to nothing - he either handballs off quickly or kicks it short to a loose option, I rarely see him use his footskills to break the lines with his disposal.

Watts' disposal is one of two areas of his game I could not question. His kicking is absolutely elite and often sets up play downfield. Not easy to do when it is completely stagnate/no one there.

disagree completely - I think there are ample things that we can criticise Jack for - attack on the contest, attack on the ball, his chasing - but he usually makes the right decision and he will go forward with his disposal if there is an option which there rarely is.

Seriously? He lacks instinct to get off the mark, run and kick long. He rarely ever 'creates' when he has the ball. Every game you hear fans yelling at Jack to kick it, he's one of our slowest players to use the ball when in space. Of course, when there's an obvious target he hits them between the eyes, and he's probably the best set shot at the club, but he has very little dare

I think you're trying to suggest Watts doesn't do this. If that's what you're arguing I think you're wrong. It is exactly what he does. He just doesn't do it often enough.

I'm a bit staggered by the response to Watts possessions.

If we are wrong about his disposal then I wouldnt trade him - I'd just delist him as he has little else to his game at this point. He doesn't impose himself on contests, no tackling or chasing. His only saving grace has been when he has ball in hand but apparently that's substandard as well.

Not only doesn't he do it enough it isn't his first instinct His first is to look to hand pass sideways pressuring the teamate and then pass it off. Unfortunately it doesn't put any pressure on the opposition.It is not exactly what he does If he did he would be a gun but he wont be will he?

In 2014 he had 200 kicks to 185 handballs. Seems to a high ratio for someone whose first instinct is to hand off. In other seasons his kick to handball ratio has been even higher.

Like most of the other people criticising his disposal, you're dead set just making stuff up to justify your bias. It's getting pretty tedious and was clearly not the intention for this thread.

I think you're trying to suggest Watts doesn't do this. If that's what you're arguing I think you're wrong. It is exactly what he does. He just doesn't do it often enough.

The problem is he doesn't have the instinct to just go - he hesitates too often and misses opportunities trying to sum up the play. He's definitely not a Travis Johnstone who could pick the gaps and break lines with his disposal, and the output we get from him is not really worth what it costs us.

Where is his position? He's not a midfielder as he doesn't have the tank or competitive will; he's not a defender as he's too unaccountable and too easily out-manned; he's not a KPF as he's not strong enough.

He has goal sense and his best position is probably as a third tall forward but he's too one dimensional and even then would get rag-dolled too easily. He's worth more to us on the trade table than on the list I think.

The stats will only tell you so much. Of his kicks what was the short:long ratio. How many long kicks were effective/to advantage? Of his kicks how many of them were involved in a score involvement possession chain? Edited September 5, 2014 by Dr. Gonzo
