Lonie was terrific today. Good pace and his skills off the deck were very sharp. He'd also be among the best kick's in this years crop. For three quarters he was automatic from inside fifty, slotting goals from all angles, both on the run and from set shots. Set shots were particularly impressive as there was a slightly tricky breeze out there today.

His field kicking is generally very good too, but that's not unusual for a Lonie.

Thought White was very good again for the Stingrays. Have seen Dandenong a couple of times this year and White and Lonie have been very good players for them every time. thought Capiron was solid today as well.

The Falcons were very disappointing, butchering the ball forward of centre. Probably had as much of, if not more of the ball today, but were just horrible with their ball use.

Goddard was quite good down back, but the service to him made it hard for him to impact the game when up forward. Think he has been good since the champs, but still hard to get a read on where he'll go. His failure to take control of any games would seem to have hurt his standing. Clearly has plenty of talent to work with though.

So he's related to the Lonies who played for Collingwood and Hawthorn.

According to Demonwiki, a Bill Lonie was a follower/forward who signed for the Demons in 1951 but was hurt in a motor accident and didn't play. A policeman by trade, Lonie joined VFA side Brighton in 1954.

I seem to recall a player with the same surname (perhaps the father of the Lonie twins?) trying out with the club in the 1970's but can't find any proof.

Cousin of the twins I believe.

Kicking skill must be in the genes.

Would have loved to, but my 6 y/o has her birthday party today. Very poor planning on my behalf.

Reports from anyone going will be much appreciated, will be a ripper day of footy.

Interesting Roos said he will be at the TAC finals keeping a close eye. Been reports he is a big fan of Angus Brayshaw so hopefully he turns it on.

For those going out to Visy Park today to see Angus Brayshaw, here's an appetiser -

And for more, Paige Cardona's Phantom Draft currently has us taking

Brayshaw at # 2 but note the caveat at the end about his ankle injury:

Pick 2: Melbourne Angus Brayshaw

Position: Midfielder

Height: 187 cm, Weight: 87 kg, DOB: 09/01/1996

Club: Sandringham Dragons

Projected draft range: 2-10

Player comparison: Sam Mitchell

Make no mistake about it, Angus Brayshaw is adored by Paul Roos. Should the Demons hold onto their first round pick, you can put the house on the Demons selecting Brayshaw the son of Mark and nephew of James with their very first selection. Brayshaw has his fans because what you see is what you get: he is a serious footballer who is professional in every aspect of his game. Brayshaw is a diligent trainer and preparer, and leaves no stone unturned in ensuring he ticks boxes in his recovery. From a footballing aspect, Brayshaw is tough and courageous, dominating clearances and wins his own ball. He can move forward to kick goals, and when he isnt doing that, hes setting them up or inspiring his teammates with acts of desperation. Despite being largely inside, Brayshaw rates in the upper echelon in metres gained, loving to take the game on by backing himself to break lines and fend off opponents. Likely to feature in a clubs leadership group within three years, the All Australian, AFL-AIS member and Dragons skipper will automatically improve Melbournes list alongside some very promising kids on Melbournes books.

Player Update: He suffered a nasty ankle injury in the semi-final last week against North Ballarat. Has been named to take on Oakleigh; expected to line up. Also named on-baller of the TAC Cup team of the year.

As for Roos being there, I should think he would because apart from seeing the draftable talent, he has a fatherly interest in one of the players.

Anyone going today?

Hi Jack,

I'll be heading down to watch, It's been a very entertaining finals series so far with only 1 blowout.

The Calder Cannons have been strong for a decade and a half. Finished top of the ladder this year and now seem destined to make the TAC Cup Grand Final next week.

The big men dominated for the Calder boys today, Kovacevic dominated the ruck and the calder mids took advantage. Wright looks to have suffered a minor knee injury as well for Calder going into next week.

Demon watch Jake Lovett got a lot of the ball especially first half but was a bit wasteful today with his disposal.

So I'm sitting here in one of the stands at Visy Park with Melon22 and over to our right is the GWS entourage including SOS and a really fat bloke who I'm led to believe is getting paid $120k pa for sitting around watching kids playing footy.

Meanwhile, the Chargers are in control and lead by 4 goals.

The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
