Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My take on Terlich going forward, think Macaffer I reckon, he has a mature body and is hard at it, sit him with Cross and teach him how to negate an opponent but still get a bit of the ball, he has kicked goals (not many) and he seems to be able to run all day, think his days at Half Back are over

Interesting. I note that Roos tried him as a defensive forward for probably less than half a game (Bulldogs at Etihad) without success. He's really going to have to learn to tighten up...but if he can do that, I like your thinking.

Certainly Terlich finished 2013 3rd in the Best & Fairest. Then Roos joins, a coach who had originally delisted him from Sydney. I can see how that might have unsettled him this year. Add to that the very public game day spray that he received from Roos and you can see why this has been a poor year for Terlich.

I read the Pie Night thread, we just need guys who can roll through the midfield, doing various roles, we do need a bit of class, but we need a few hard bodies in there, blocking, tagging etc, Terlich has already played as an inside mid at Casey....nobody on here has a problem with his attack on the ball and man, Roos probably sees the same thing.....I had a word with another player who gets bagged on here big Pencil, his education started the minute he got back into the Club after his ankle op this year, he is working with Greg Stafford, watching vision, learning where to go on the ground, they have him watching Mumford etc.....he also attacks man and ball with ferocity, only need the skills and nous sharpened....Terlich is the same

...do you know this gets a bit wearing, we know, you and a few others won't let us forget.......we had a couple of games towards the back end of the season where the kicking skills were atrocious, we also had a couple of games where they were very good....get over it....

I've got a lot of time for Terlich, more so than either Bail or Riley, so I'm pretty happy with that news.

However, Roos has handed out new contracts to Spencer, M.Jones, Jetta, McDonald, Terlich, Riley & Bail so far this year, most of them 2 years. You can't complain about the state of the list and then go around handing out multi year deals to a bunch of C and D grade players, most of whom have been in the system for four years or longer. Particularly given that Jamar, McKenzie and Evans will still be stinking it up next year.

I hope we don't miss out on taking players in the pre season draft because we've moved too quickly resigning this calibre of player.

Spencer, Jones, Jetta, and McDonald were given two year deals. The three players that this thread mentions are all on 1-year deals according to the Australian.

Jetta and McDonald are B-grade players or higher, so the only 'multi-year deals for C and D grade players' are Matt Jones and Jake Spencer.

Hardly a bunch...

you must concede that the biggest obstacle to us improving as a team is our disposal.

What sets Hawthorn apart from other team ( and Geelong/Sydney etc) is their disposal

According to AFL......Nth disposal ranking is 2nd in the comp at 74% For this year

Melbourne equal 3rd at 73.8%

Will be intersting to see how Bail plays this week with the security of a contract , as Jetta's form has gone off the rails since he signed his.

Dunn was also playing better prior to his extension.

?.....you are kidding right?.....assume you mean the West Coast were the defence was under siege.....MFC 'supporters' never cease to amaze me...

This........the biggest problem we have is getting 22 players to perform at a consistenly high standard for 23 games.....Hawthorn and Sydney have this with one or two glitches per year..........

That is where watching games and marrying that up with stats comes in handy.

We chip the ball around the back half constantly and do it quite well except we are not quick enough at it and we don't create a release on the open side.

Our kicking into the forward 50 is poor and we turnover the ball too much.

there is a difference between able to chip the 20 metres backwards or to a man in space and having footballers who can really hurt you by foot. We dont have enough footballers that can really hurt you by foot - Stats dont tell me that - my eyes do.

Perpetuating the myth, Roh Bail's disposal effiiciency has averaged over his time at above 85%, so not rubbish, but keep going.......yawn

It is 69% this year. Its no myth.

If your suggesting it is above 85% over his career you are dreaming.

Keep going yourself.

Actually the problem is that we don't cover the ground well enough in open space. We struggle to get into attacking positions due to our lack of line breaking run.

The disposal efficiency reflects that we are rarely in a position to take risks with our disposal, and instead are choosing low risk options due to them occurring in defensive positions.

It's also why we bemoan our poor disposal, because when we do stuff it up it happens in a bad position.

Stats tell a number of potential stories, but you just have to look a bit harder to find the right one.

And Bail is one of the few who is able to get the footy in dangerous positions, which means he often needs to go for more high risk kicks.

this is a classic reason why i trust my eyes and intuition more than stats

disposal efficiency (at least kicking) should be kept for both offensive disposal and defensive disposal

it is our offensive disposal efficiency that is appalling

you know I reckon if you can kick , you can kick, if you cant, you cant

I would qualify that.

Give me a ball and tell me to kick without anyone coming at me to a player 20 metres away and 20 metres clear and i can kick.

Have someone rushing me or have to pinpoint a pass - Im Simon Godfrey.

Our stats on disposal, especially our defenders, are made to look better because we chip to a loose so often in the back 50.

After 60 years of playing and watching the game bb you are correct.

My observation is that 90% of players who are ordinary licks at 18 are still ordinary at 30.

The odd one that improves are the exception and I can honestly say I have never seen a poor kicker become great.

I'm not sure where to find the goals scored from turnovers but I would be surprised if we were not last by a very long way.

We don't seem to have trouble getting the ball. Since Roos has come on board he has fixed this. I think on the weekend WCE scored 9 goals from TOs.

We desperately need players that can deliver the ball effectively to a team mate in a better position. That's why signing DT leaves me cold.

Stephen Powell was an ordinary kick but very effective. I am sure there are others..
