The Recruit

Irish bloke has signed a 2 year deal with Geelong,

all three finalists have AFL clubs interested and big chance all will be offered contracts by someone regardless of if they win or not

Chris Morland has interest from 3-4 clubs already

Does the winner actually take up a spot on an AFL list or do the AFL give that club an extra spot for him?

Bugger,

I thought he showed huge potential.

Won't happen... for us.

Was that edit made after the Geelong anouncement? :)

No, it was me being a smartarse ahead of time.

I knew.

Aren't we into Wagner? Apparently he'll choose us or Port if he wins.

This will be interesting............haven't seen any of this show, but tuning into the draft now.

Surely we would have to be a chance with any of them who want a game next year!

Wagner to Port

Apparently the Irish bloke has signed with Geelong. Would think big Bradie and Reece have something to offer as rookie projects

The producers would've loved the ending to the show, guy gets to live his boyhood dream.

FWIW I felt Kochies pitch, although a bit over the top, was probably the most direct. Will be interesting to see how he goes there.

Kochie could've said whatever he liked. He was always choosing Port. It was just an example of Koch to [censored] his Port Adelaide virtues crap.

GWS nominated him because they probably had to. Gold Coast because they are in desperate need of some depth!

Serious question ... how can that happen? Wouldn't he have to go through the draft? My understanding was that the special draft was for the winner only.

It's just a normal international rookie signing because he hasn't played any afl.. similar to us picking up Westrupp

Thanks for the clarification Breggsy.

What Breggsy said - looks like the others all go to the draft/rookie draft

Even the local footy players on The Recruit, desperate for a shot at AFL, don't wanna come to us.

We chose not to be one of the teams willing to recruit him. I reckon if we'd nominated we would've been a fair chance but it was always going to be Port if they put up their hand.

Would have been really embarrassing if nobody had put their hand up to recruit the winner. . .

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
