Saying the position we are in is because of bade luck is like blaming the umpires for a poor win/loss ratio. We have been a poorly run club for a long time and made poor decisions both on and off field. Now we have good people righting the ship but it will take time and continued support from members. I feel for the young kids drafted into such a rabble which I think in a number of cases has damaged what might have been decent careers.

Salem- OMG. Whenever we do make a good recruiting call, something seems to happen to them. Goes back decades. Tingay, Glenn Lovett, Prympke, Ox, Jakovich, Lyon, (?Matthew) Newton (no, not juice), Clark, Hogan and now Salem. [censored]. Merde.

The curse of Norm Smith. Thanks Dr Duffy and friends.

What is the story with Salem? Nothing on the MFC website about his injury. Anyone know more?

Finally gain a player who looks like been a star for us, next minute career ending injury

we are cursed

For me, the injury to Mitch and his subsequent battle with depression is the biggest example of us copping the worst luck in the AFL. Even clubs like St Kilda, Bulldogs, and Port (who until recently were really struggling) have had stars in their line ups to at least give the supporters something to hang their hats on. North haven't had one for a while but prior to that had arguably one of the greatest to ever take the field in Carey.

Jeff Farmer is the closest we've had to genuine game-changing star and he was only in that class for 2 seasons with us before he left (and that feels like a lifetime ago!).

Mitch Clark had all the trademarks of being a team-lifting star player, hell the game he injured himself I reckon he was on track for 10+ goals! When it was revealed the extent of his injury I said to myself, "we can't have nice things, they just get ruined".

We've brought a lot of things onto ourselves; tanking, Neeld, poor drafting mixed with woeful player development. But lady luck has not shone down on us for a LONG time. I'm hoping the trading of Tyson to the club, and perhaps Hogan being able to get out onto the park is the beginning of the upward trend.

You create your own luck

Yeah, maybe that is right re good luck, but bad luck seems to rain down upon us (Hogan, Clark, now Salem, Jurrah, Wona, Jako, Ox, etc etc etc)

Salem has been picked for Casey this week. Still no mention of his quad injury on the MFC website. Is this just a silly rumour?

You can mismanage like crazy but with enough luck it may not be devastating. You can mismanage a bit and with some bad luck as well you can go down the gurgler. It's clear to me that we mismanaged and had some extraordinary bad luck as well. To put it all on either factor is foolish.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
