The Jack Viney bump that never was!

I reckon Roos will have a good motivational tool to get the boys fired up these next two weeks.

I reckon social media would almost literally burn down if it got drawn out to 4 matches after appeal.

I think we will appeal tomorrow. The AFL will be torn between not wanting to buckle to public demand, and doing the right thing. I think the stubbornness of the AFL will win out and the 2 weeks will stand.

I don't think the penalty can be increased if the appeal fails - they either overturn the original decision, or uphold it. Two weeks and no carryover points - nicely graded to seem reasonable, minimise the outcry. They hope.

This has probably been brought up, but I wonder what the charge would be if it was a Hodge or a Sellwood instead of a Viney?

Just 10 years ago the AFL was advertising this type of clash as a reason to see come see the game.... what a farce it is now

Roosy is in it

If we are to protest, is Jack likely to be given a longer sentence ?

If so surely it is up to him whether he wants risk being a martyr for the club.

It's easy for us fans to demand a protest we have nothing to lose.

The club need to work out what is best for Jack before making any decision.

What worries the AFL most is the TV rights. It would be great if all supporters boycotted the TV this weekend. But it won't happen sadly.

They soon will if the game loses the toughness it was once known for.

In saying that, I don't think players will change the way they play, they will be instructed to continue attacking the footy like Viney, and in 99.99% of occasions there won't be a freak series of events that lead to a broken jaw, so there will be no case to answer.

Just really pisses me off that players consistently get one week or reprimands for the cheap little elbows that are deliberate, and then players like Viney and a few before him are rubbed out for longer for playing honest hard footy, and someone has accidentally been injured. It is bullshiit.

Looks like Jack Watts is the prototype AFL player of the future now. Plenty of skill, no aggression. Basketball style zoning, corralling that is the future for the AFL.

What a fcuking joke!!! this game will netball on grass soon we really need him massive loss

I'm on the way over to the tribunal to eject a turd on their doorstep, who wants to join?

It's okay, I'm listening.

Jack will always be hard, but now he'll be more discriminate.

Haha. Dumbo are you a mind reader or maybe a flat mate of Jack's? If not, then you have no idea what he will do post this verdict. And neither do i.

This could change him as you say or, alternatively, it might just as well make him more demonic and just go harder but lower into the contest.

Having watched Viney play a few games and having read his tweet this evening, i'd be putting my hard earned on the latter. I don't think he'll change his approach one iota and this result will probably make him more determined than ever to hit in hard.

I can see what Dermie's riled...

Riding the bumps (oops no), bracing for impact (nope can't even do that) pirouetting aside with a grin at Hawthorn

How is Hawthorn not a dead duck waiting in all this ???

oh thats right ...theyre Hawthorn.

Im all but lost for words about this. A joke is funny...this......

I think it makes them look more incompetent. Either guilty 4 weeks or not guilty.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
