Players to target at the end of the year

Which means that he is not underrated. It's pretty clear how good the bloke is and that isn't lost on the Swans, not for a second. But they have big decisions to make after signing Buddy and letting Malceski go might be one of them. Doesn't mean they don't rate him.

I know what you mean, but that's also my point, blokes like O'keefe can come out and guys like Parker and Bird get a run and that's fine

Malceski is a big chance of being All Australian this year, I don't think you just let those blokes walk in the middle of a premiership window

I just think he's a little bit better than the sort of bloke you move on to give the young guys a go

Given that most of this thread is dominated by trying to land the elite, or near elite, players with high draft picks, I'll go the other way.

I'd like to see us have a crack at Martin Gleeson from the Dons. He's hard at it, very quick, and would add a bit off half forward/wing IMO.

I don't expect he'd cost us very much. He hasn't had a game in the seniors for ages. And I don't think he was a high pick in the first place.

I wouldn't be keen on more Viv Mitchie types, cheap or not

Blair from the pies I now he is not the big onballer everyone wants but he is a jet our second could get it done

We can't afford to be trading away our high picks on players like Blair. Good honest player but we need to add real class to the list.

As a player, he'd virtually be the opposite of Michie. Skinny and quick. Strong overhead for his size too.

Dons supporters rate him.

Showed a bit early. Neat kick too. Bombers are keen to lock him up, but deal yet to be agreed. Was pick 53 a couple of years ago.

I'd trade our second rounder ~20ish for Blair. Solid player with another 5+ years of good footy in him.

I wouldn't, the pick is way to high for Blair. We have traded these picks away for a couple of years now and need to find some really good kids otherwise we are building an unbalanced list.

Dream offseason:

Malceski

Shiel

Tomlinson

Brayshaw/Petracca

Stretch

You are setting up the basis for a Premiership window here! My only change would be to add one of GWS's three Talls (to replace Clark)!

Agreed, still need a big key forward who will let Dawes go to the second best defender. I still want us to go after Tex but it's unlikely he'll leave you'd imagine.

Can't have everything unfortunately. Hogan, Dawes, Pederson and Watts would be damaging enough once we address our midfield.

Yeah, I think that those 4 are not only good enough to form a very good forward line for a few years at least - only one of them is going to cost heaven and earth to keep around. The other three are role players (but very effective role players).

and very different players, Watts has speed and skill, Pederson is a brute, Dawes has experience and works as hard as anyone and Hogan just looks a freak in the making

Yeah true, with JKH and Kent running around there too it'll form a good forward line. With better delivery the forward can be more damaging then we have been this year.

As long as he can sneak up from defence and snap a GF winning goal for us, any price is right :-)

Thought you were talking about Froggy Crompton for a minute there.

A decent off season without us landing one of teh big fishes in Cameron or Shiel which would be fantastic but going to be hard to get through is Free Agents nominating the Dees as their club of choice after they win 4 of their last 5 games (Lions, GWS, Meth Coast and North) to finish the season on a high. Frawley decides to stay and we end up with

Pick 7ish - Brayshaw if he slips or Ahern

2nd Rounder Pick 24-7ish - best available of Gore, Vickers-Willis, Capiron or Blakely all of who I have seen live and look good. Don't think Weller or Duggan will fall this far

3rd Rounder - Billy Stretch

4th Round - Sam Bevan worth a punt has shown a bit for Claremont Colts and has a bit of swingman about him

Free Agents

Nick Malceski

Jarren Geary

I'm sure there will be some form of trades the club will also work on but don't underestimate the improvement in some of the younger players getting another pre-season from Roos under their belts namely Kent, Salem, Viney, Tyson and the Toump not to mention Trengove getting his body right.

Jarryn Geary just signed a new deal with the Saints.

good

We can do much better than him

Getting a tad wet looking at that. Possibly Salem takes Grimes' spot, and Kent/Blease sub?

I think 'Tomlinson' on stmj's list, helps us in a key forward post as well... Re 'Clark', IMO the other thing we lack with him retiring, is that able Tall 'swingman' who can run & kick, to play either back, & slot in Deep-Forward as well, & even as a follower.

This is why I'm keen for us to sound out Jaksch at GWS, he is young, & has some height on some other key talls, & may yet still grow a bit. he'll certainly fill out, & has good hands & some speed.

I wouldn't be surprised if sewell and/or o'keefe sign daniel cross style contracts

Hopefully not with us. Sewell's hammies are stuffed and Rhino's about to get a letter from the queen.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
