Players to target at the end of the year

Recommended Posts

Are you new to the concept of AFL player movement?

This is cr@p.

Someone said he was out of contract at the end of the season?

I know I've thrown the possiblity of going after O'Rourke, but there are plenty of other mids I'd want ahead of him.

I'm no expert, but from what I've seen, there doesn't seem to be anything that overly excites me..

Nat Fyfe? Patrick Dangerfield?

Cost us a lot, I know, but worth it.

Sure we should enquire.

But I'm talking more about the Dom Tyson types. I don't think O'Rourke is quite in the same class. But of course I could be wrong.

Yeah but remember Dom Tyson wasn't all that rated when we got him, more proved himself this year.

Kieran Harper as a delisted free agent?

He is the perfect example of a one-dimensional player who lacks in footballing ability.

We still have far too many of them, and we don't need another.

I'm over footballers who may be really fast or have terrific aerobic ability but cannot hit a target.

That is Atley to a 'tee'.

Sam Blease is our Atley. We don't need another.

He was always 'rated'. It was his inability to stay injury free which meant we couldn't see him perform consistently but there were definitely signs from when he played at GWS.

Now he's with us and has had a clean run we can see how good he is.

O'Rourke is just genuinely struggling to get a gig in a midfield of youngsters that Have developed quicker or are better players.

I'd say it's both.

Not particularly quick. Is working on his speed, but there's only so much you can gain. Endurance is very good.

Brayshaw soulds good but we also have a lot of that speed already. with trenners to return.

If I was to compare us side by side with the Hawks/Cats, we have young'uns in the playstyle/speed of a hodge sewell, we lack the Stevie J's, Jordan Lewis's, Cyrils, Mitchell's, Prestia's,,, amongst our list types IMO.

I think its time to look for a Danger'/Rohan type Mid/Forward, some speedy stocky smalls, & a couple of key talls-backs.

too soon for O'Rourke to star just yet. as I recall it he was said to be outside quick at that stage, with a medium body. so would need to grow more size before becoming damaging on the inside of the heat. Disposal numbers would come with size & fitness base & confidence. imho

O'Rourke is in the exact same case as Dom Tyson, struggling because of injury, and you never really heard anyone talk about how good Dom Tyson was.

No one expected this from him.

The case is the same, but Dom has always been a ball winner, especially in junior levels. whereas O'Rourke is not a prolific ball winner.

I would love to have O'Rourke but wouldnt pay such a price for him

watching GWS now

Playing like a team of players that cant wait to leave at the end of their contracts and who can blame them

Will be disappointed if we cant land 1 or 2 of their young guns at seasons end, there will certainly be a mass exodus

Different type of mid, but I think O'Rourke can be just as good as Macrae, just hasn't had the resources and gametime put into him at GWS.

The fact you could get him relatively cheap, just like we did with Tyson, appeals.

If we go for, for instance, Dangerfield or Fyfe their cost is at an all time high.

O'Rourke went at pick 2 for a reason; his potential just hasn't been realised yet.

Yeah, some of us were and Roos himself flagged in November that he would be a star. I reckon we have the people in place to identify the right players.

They have some real problems up there and I'm not sure the coach is helping their cause.

Paul Roos didn't say he'd star straight away and he himself said he's surprised, you can't sit there and tell me you saw this coming

Really like the look of young Arnott from the tigers playing in the 2s looks very aggressive

Pass.

Go back and check my posts and you will see I did.

You thought he'd be averaging 24 or so disposals and almost 2 goals a game?

Rjay is usually one of the better picks of talent on here, he did say Tyson was a better pick up then we thought and I can honestly say I wasn'tone who agreed but I do nnos.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
