Operation - Get Danger

Interesting article on one of my favourite Non-Dees player in Patrick Dangerfield.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/patrick-dangerfield-to-weigh-up-adelaide-prospects-20140319-hvkhj.html

I think we all have a soft spot for him, quick, powerful, skilled and hard as a cats scone.

Literally 3 days ago I was chatting with a very close acquaintance of Patrick's and he guaranteed me he would return to Victoria after this contract and now this article has popped up to say hello.

Also said that Patrick was told by the Crows mid year during his U/18 campaign that they would select him with whatever pick they had in the draft from 1 onwards. They rated him the best pick of the draft. He said at the time Patrick also received a lot of attention from our talent scouts.... fat lot of good that did but oh well.

What do you say lads & ladettes? I say lets get the cheque book open!

He'd be licking his lips at the prospect of playing for us seeing he's said team success is the issue not money.

I think going forward all players will be saying the exact same thing (eg Frawley, Gibbs etc) as it's the classic AFL players response that doesn't make them sound like a money hungry a-hole and provides justification of why a player would look elsewhere.

Being the continually burnt demon supporters we are suffering from a never ending case of MFCSS we all know it really translates to "Yes I would sell my body to the highest bidder and let them have there way with me"

Throw everything at him.

We need to continually improve the list as well as inspire and influence players like Frawley to want to hang around.

If we have a decent enough season, it's a possibility.

We absolutely need players of his calibre on the list. We still have a huge gap between our best and worst players. We need a more consistent side.

God damn Roos, just sign a 5 year deal already and turn this club around for good.

Roos and Betnie can go up at seasons' end and have a chat to him.

Wish list for the season.

Frawley to sign on

Hogan to sign on

Roos to sign on longer than the three

A definite improvement in performance and a rise up the ladder

Sign a big name player like Danger at the end of season

Mitch Clark to be completely over injuries and be ready to have a full pre-season for 2015

Too much?

Icing on the cake would be for GWS to realise that he have not got room for three key forwards and swap us Tom Boyd for Pedersen.

We definitely have the money for him with Clark coming out of contract with a new contract at only a fraction of his old. It is unlikely too many other clubs will have the salary cap room we have come seasons end.

We would have to push for finals this season, become a glamour team and produce exciting footy to have any chance.

Without tall forwards out for the what seems likely as the first half of the season, and no midfield depth I see this as highly unlikely. But its not going to stop me dreaming.

I wanted us to go after him 3 - 4 years back... I think the $$$$ horse may have bolted now, as all and sundry will be after him.

we should try, but I think we should really concentrate on Gary Rohan now, to try to find that X factor pace. He is yet to set the AFL on fire & the Swans seem unsettled. with some of their young moving on.

edit: I've just googled Rohan, & see he's just re-signed with the Swans.

We have zero chance of Dangerfield, but have a feeling something might be in the works with TeX and Vince.

I wish.

Danger will want a big chance of a flag, recruit tex and one other good quality player, hang on to Chip and Hogan and offer him the coin and we might be a chance of luring him home.

Free Agency is going to be very busy in late 2014. The players now know the best way to use it.

We lose a player we fight like hell to get better ones

I thought Clark was contracted till end of 2015???

Give him a million dollars a year, and sign him for eleven years.

He's desperate to get back to Geelong.
He would've left last contract but they simply couldn't offer him more than 200,000 with all their older stars.

This time around they've cleared Corey, Chapman, Pods and heaps more. He'll get offered below market 500k and run there.

God they'll be good for years.

lol... Team success..... Get him to count the difference in the trophy cabinet

while none of those items are improbable, my head is full of doubt, can we start making burnt offerings at Norm Smith's statue.

He'll leave, and honestly he should stop messing with Adelaide and tell them look i want to go play footy home, at least they'll be able to trade him at the end of season and get maybe 2 high draft picks.

Even if he was to leave, why do people think we'd be in with a chance to get his signature?

It would be time and effort wasted, imo. He'd want to go to a club on the cusp of success, and whilst i don't doubt Roosy's skill and even his allure, not even he would be able to pull something like this off.

Every player says they go to a club for success...

He'd come for wait for it.... money!

This is what I am hearing as well.

Meh Geelong probably have the biggest chance, but i see whoever offers him the most money.

Some take care of the others i reckon,

we should definite improvement and Frawley and Hogan will jump on board, Mitch will be desperate to get back and Roosy will sniff a flag

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
