One of Life's Certainties.

One thing we can be sure of in life, every year all AFL clubs are thrilled on draft night, with the boys they drafted.

Yes. You couldn't imagine the recruiters being interviewed after the draft saying " Well, we definitely recruited some shite players tonight"!

Doesn't even have to go that far. We will never hear a recruiter say " I wanted player X but we are thrilled with player Y".

"We thought we were in for a real chance with Tom Boyd at pick 9 tonight, but unfortunately he went a tad earlier at pick 1"

I thought you were going to say that "no matter who your club drafts, there will be some supporters who lambast it as a terrible selection."

God damn it, I keep going to like posts.

I agree with this thread and find it amusing.

I clearly remember after 2008 and 2009 drafts the club recruiters singing their selection success loud and clear. A lot of p!ssing in pockets was had by all.

i wanted to like p-man's post

that would have indicated that i found it insightful/amusing or agreed with/endorsed it in some way

Salem wasn't our first choice as evidenced by Taylor saying "we rated him very highly," when asked did we get our man.

If he was our number 1 choice at pick 9 he would've had no reason to say otherwise.

Moon who was it that [censored] in yours?

My money is on BBO.

Not sure what that means.

Tom Boyd was almost certainly our number 1 choice at pick 9.

I think we're very happy with Salem.

Aish or Scharenberg would have been nice, but I don't think there's a lot between them all.

All good decision-makers with excellent disposal.

I think we would all be calling BS if he said we thought he was the best in the draft.

Realistically they would have not expected to have a chance to snag any players who went 1- 8. Perhaps the fella the pies got at 6 but I doubt they would have planned on getting him. If they wanted anyone else obviously they could have got them

it's popular in the social media context because it works well, that's how things get popular. Here's another fun fact: the word 'like' is part of the English language which has been inherited by both the USA and ourselves. You're learning stuff.

Settle down with your fantasies Toady.

In my opinion, Taylor had another name he wanted to call out before Salem.

That's what I meant.

I understand that, but what does that actually mean?

Every club bar GWS would have probably had a player whose name they wish could call out at their pick, but couldn't.

There definitely would have been players he wishes had have slipped through to pick 9, but there'd been a very low chance of that happening.

Are you talking about anyone specifically?

Scharenberg may have got past Collingwood, but probably not Brisbane in that case.

As it was, the opposite happened with Aish.

Salem would have been the club's first realistic choice and any of those who went earlier that they may have been interested in, would have been speculative (if he gets this far, forget Salem and grab him).

So how many would prefer either Aish or Scharenberg to both Salem and Tyson? I am pretty happy with the trade.

My post was in relation to the thread title and OP in particular. I'm not sure what other context I can add to help explain it.
