Does this mean that my man Neville Jetta has been given another go around? And what about James Magner?

I have a good feeling about Jetta under Roos. Glad we've kept him.

Theyll be looking to a few more names but that will depend on drafting and trading.

Not finished yet.

The only one that gives me a slight pause for thought on that list is Tynan.

Thats 7 off the list plus one rookie. I wouldnt expect too many more. Jetta/Tapscott possibilities off the main list and Magner/Clisby off the rookie list maybe?

Tynan maybe could've deserved another year to prove himself, but if he can't find enough of the footy and make an impact at VFL level, he's well behind the 8 ball.

Jetta is a keep, IMHO.

With the 3 retirements we've now got rid of 8 players.

Expect a few more changes.

Praise The Lord!

Can we still delist Nicho? (won't be able to trade him)

Magner must be pretty [censored]!

Jetta - good choice

Are they all Neeld appointments?

Now trade Byrnes Pederson for pick 88?

magner and clisby will come off the rookie list and hogan will take a spot too

Excuse my ignorance if wrong...but doesn't that mean Magner has to be upgraded off the rookie list as he's been on it for 2 yrs already?

7 main list spots (down to 6 once you add Hogan) and 1 rookie spot freed up.

You'd think there's still more room to move but it's best to wait on the free agency and trade periods before final cuts. I wouldn't be getting ahead of myself if I was Jetta, Nicholson or Magner just yet. Or even if I was one of the contracted but not overly well performed types - Strauss, Bail, Tapscott, Blease.

Tynan and Davis appeared hard workers and were enthusiastic players at Casey. But just seemed a long way off in terms of talent and athleticism.

I thank them all for their contribution. Besides maybe Gillies, he was a crock.

Magner, Nicho & Jetta may still be cut. Will probably be given a chance over the Pre season with possibility of still being delisted.

Possibly. I thought there was some way of having 3rd year rookies, but I'm not sure if Magner would even be interested. He could earn more money working and playing state league footy and get a shot at another club.

I expect he'll be delisted or promoted. Roos would be a fan of his game style in some ways and would probably be keen to try him if he can't secure some contested ball mids from other clubs.

I think the desists so far are right although some will get tetchy over some misplaced injustice.

I don't think Nicho or Jetta are out of the woods yet. Magner is a rookie and his departure does affect list numbers. I'd cut Magner. And I am not fuss on Nicho or Jetta.

Curious how you think underperforming still contracted players will be nervous? I can't see the club paying out contracts and I don't see any trade value in any of them. On their progress to date they old be favourites for the chop at the end of 2014.

Me too. He is young and still developing. I would have kept him another year.

There are plenty I would let go before him.

Thought Tynan may have picked up a 1 year deal to prove himself under Roos and that one of Sellar or Davis (probably Sellar) would have been kept for depth.

Magner, Jetta & Nicho lucky IMO and even Taggert isn't out of the woods yet. Those 4 and Stark are probably the only other players that may come under scrutiny over the next few weeks.

But I'd certainly delist Magner and pick up Cross instead.

.

If your reason to re contract a player is for "depth" then you don't have justifiable reason to re contract them and let them go.

No-brainer decisions really. Sellar was useful depth down back but hopeless anywhere else, Gillies was probably the worst player we've recruited since Isaac Weetra, Davis and Tynan didn't do enough in their time here. Couch was an in-betweener (too good for VFL, not good enough for AFL)

I'm sure they all gave it their all but there are no surprises there at all.

I can see a player in Neville Jetta, while I think Roos could rate Magner more than our last coach. Nicholson would have to be on shaky ground.

Get this through your head, Roos and other coaches of a similar ilk such as Lyon love players who run and have discipline to do abasic job which fits into the structure.

One thing Nicho has is a tank which is to his advantage, players who can perform roles whilst getting occassional runs through the midfield as run with or just to give other mids a breather are a strong chance to at least be looked at or held over until after the trade period.

Tom Couch would go down as the most pointless rookie pick in MFC history.

If your reason to re contract a player is for "depth" then you don't have justifiable reason to re contract them and let them go.

Well there is certainly some logic in keeping youngish (even Sellar is only 24) players as depth in the hope they develop and also that they make improvement. You can't just have a best 22 and kids, that wont work. But Sellar was brought across and in 2 years he hasn't and Davis didn't look up to it. Of course than main reason we didn't need to keep them for depth is that behind Frawley, Garland and McDonald as starting tall defenders we have the wonderful if undersized Dunn as well as good old Pedersen. Plenty of depth for mine.

The fact tynan had too many games where he was almost unnoticeable at casey cost him.

It could speak of the confidence the club had on signing Sylvia.

Clisby will spend another year as rookie.

6 spots to fill, could depend on our trade period aswell. Nicho and jetta seem like players roos could use

Can we please dump Bail?!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
