Nathan Freeman

Because someone, in this case Freeman is compared to another player means nothing. They do this with all potential draftees at this time of the year...plays like Dangerfield. Don't get sucked into this one, the other one not to get sucked into are the combine results. They don't count much at the top end, maybe a little bit of icing but they are more relevant for kids down the order. The top kids have been followed for years, there is little not known about them.

Only a mug recruiter like BP would put a lot of stake in combine results.

We will have selection 2 come draft night.

We will select Nathan Freeman.

He has already been spoken to by us.

I have a feeling we will not be all that active in the trading period. Paul Roos will not trade like we did last year.

yeh right, do you think he will be there at pick 9?

The answer is a pineapple! Who knows? However, we will pick him at 9 if still there. And you can take that to the bank!

If he wasn't Nathan's brother we probably wouldn't even be talking about him. He's just one of a number of good prospects expected to be taken after the first round. Don't get me wrong the unionship of two brothers is a nice thought but it needs to be taken with a grain of salt for all intensive purposes..

Spot on

Ok but put that on the Zac Jones thread and leave this one for my noy!

Sorry, that should have been "my boy"

People need to remember that our pick 9 is technically 8 with Kangaroos taking Mcdonald in father son.

Knightmare has updated his draft and look who he has put us down for:

#9 Melbourne (Via GWS Activated Compensation) - Nathan Freeman (VIC – Mid)Height: 181cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 16/06/1995
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style: Luke Shuey
Player comparison:
Range: 5-20
Profile: Freeman is an absolute dynamite midfielder. He has that Patrick Dangerfield and Chris Judd type explosion inside the contest. He’s an above average contested ball winner. He’s a guy who has that rare combination of inside game and extreme explosiveness with his pace, agility and sidestep all as good as you’ll see. In addition to that explosiveness Freeman has a real hardness to him with the way he attacks the footy and contest. Also features of Freeman’s game are his ability to take grabs overhead and his 1v1 ability. He can push forward and hit the scoreboard in a big way particularly enjoying those finishes on the run streaming into goal or running to the 50 and going long for the goal. As well as this he’s also an excellent field kick to a target with the ability to hit his targets over a variety of distances knowing his limitations but also at the same time doing some big damage. In short this guy has all the tricks and other than Jack Martin is that only other midfielder I see as a genuine game changer. To improve Freeman needs to firstly find the footy more consistently, he can find 25 disposals one game and less than 10 the next. He can also continue to improve his hands in close and become more of an inside distributor by hand instead of just jamming into onto his boot in close, so he does need to be more aware of what is around him in traffic in those situations where he can’t just burst away. Additionally he also needs to add more of an outside game so that he can find more easy ball outside the contest to boost his disposal numbers.

And knightmare is? Handy reading though Dee-licious. The "to improve" section especially is interesting!

He (or she) has been documenting drafts for quite a while now over at Big Footy. Updates every couple of week throughout the season based on going to games and speaking to coaches. Generally gets it pretty spot on in the first round.

I've heard brilliant things about this kid.. I've ever found myself saying take him on these forums on his supposed attributes, but I've never even seen him play.

Anyone got some video of him? Can't find any in the last few pages here..

Freeman at pick 9 would be a huge bonus. Tough, strong, with pace to burn.

Going back to August you've been pumping up this lad.

Kudos.

I will trust Roos and our recruiters on this pick, he looks the goods but can he improve on this part of his game or will he do a Silvia/Moloney.

That is a good point.

Freeman has already shown an appetite for taking games on. Sylvia never did , Beamer did but didnt have the skillset HiHo did

Combine the two....hmmmm

Here is the thing, Freeman sounds good to all of us, but not many of us have actually seen much of him.

I assume he played in the champs, I didn't see much of him.

He does sound good, as do most of these kids coming into the fray now.

As good as Knightmare and Chris 25 are, I'd love to hear more from AFL scouts - but they simply don't want to give anything away at this point.

Praying we pick up this kid

Nickname has to be Django.

The one real positive here is whether it is Freeman or someone else, I have faith in the new coaching panel to develop them properly.

Certainly haven't been able to expect that for sometime.

If we don't get Freeman, we might get crouch, then go for his brother from Adelaide.

Hopefully zac jones is available for us to pick, then we can go after Dylan grimes.

I am a big believer in brothers playing together. It gives the whole playing group more cohesion and emotion.

When in doubt, go the bro!

I get the feeling that Roos likes kids with the physical attributes, smarts and desire, and then backs his footy dept to make them the best footballer they can be.

Freeman has a competitive nature.

He hunts the footy.

He has a great body for it, not just his athleticism, but he has noticeably bigger ar$e, hips and thighs than the other kids - he'll get a lot of power out of them. The opposite of Scully.

No idea about what he's like intellectually, but I imagine he's got enough brains.

Decision-making, touch, running patterns, defensive positioning - all this can be taught.

Skills can be worked on.

The rest is intrinsic.

You sometimes say some incredibly silly things, but this is up there.

You don't recruit one Crouch because you want his brother.

Zac might well be worth recruiting.

Do you remember the Cockatoo-Collins brothers?

Didn't work out for us.

Another selection nightmare!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
