It's not like Hogan is playing in the bloody backline. Couch, Magner and Rodan are on the MFC list and have as much right as any other player to be played in their proper positions.

Maybe if all the kids were doing midfield time and Couch/Magner/Rodan were playing in key positions, Casey would be losing all the time and Hogan would get no worse delivery and therefore development. Gee, wouldn't that be great?

rhaz, I was at the Werribee game and Hogan made the most of limited opportunities and with poor delivery kicked 3 goals. The guy is special. Manger had 25 odd possessions and did not influence the game. Couch had a poor game. Viney played,half the game as a HFF. Rodan was extremely impressive before doing a hammy. It was obvious Rodan was the go to man before his injury.

Rodan is not the future. Strauss was prominent on a HFF. Due to the opposition pressure his input was just ok. But he tried and had more influence than Couch. Yet Couch stayed in the midfield. Strauss at least showed something in a team that was dominated

McKenzie dived on the ball in the pack and got 20 odd possessions. When the opposition spread out of the pack Jordie was picking himself up off the ground while his opponent ran forward. Jodie tried to kick 20 metres to an opponent near by but his. Kicks did not make the mark and he turned the ball over. Mostly in Werribee's forward half

Taggert had issues with his teeth therefore played in the development league.

Barry was a shinning light on a wing. Not once did he start in the centre square where he could have used his pace to deliver the ball to hogan without pressure from the opposition using his nice skills running out of the square (developing him)

If Casey are winning due to players who have no future at the club it's fools gold!!!! If they are winning due to players who can make a very poor MFC better, it was some value. Winning culture is only good if the right players are winning the ball/game

It's the same formula with Casey each week. Play Taggert, Strauss, Tappscot (particularly when the play is against us so he can bash and crash the opposition players who are killing us), a bit like Guerra did to Bruce In StKilda game years ago. Casey winning is great but it's has NO value to the Dees at the minute.

Results speak for themselves. We can no longer blame Neeld. Time to get our players to stand up at AFL and VFL level

Fair chance that Fitzpatrick might not have gotten a game this year if we had Hannath. Gawn could've been behind him too possibly.

i dont think casey should be sacrificing everything for Melbourne fringe players sake so they can run around the midfield and loose games. We certainly dont want our development team loosing like our seniors are. If these players are going to be good enough at AFL level then they should be able to run around and get kicks at VFL level even if its it not in their optimum position. Problem is they are in part just not good enough for AFL level. Blease has speed but he does not seem to be an in and under player to get the ball, has few tackles, does not chase so doubt he would work in the midfield. Tapscott seems too slow, has difficulty getting a kick and chasing on the HFF so again not sure how well he would go in the midfield. These guys need to learn multiple positions, more than that they need to stand up and prove they deserve to take that midfield role away from the guys there. Couch is probably a bit young to totally write off, well at least from our list.

Missed my point; Geelong managed to secure good draft prospects with later round picks (ie, Garry Ablett Jnr was a 3rd pick at #40) because of the father son rule. Meaning they were able to use their round 1 and 2 picks on other good draft prospects. Was just wanting to say watch out when refering to draft picks, development and Geelong.

I don't think I missed your point PJ. Ablett took many years to get to the point where he is now. He was not a Judd who starred from his first game. Development plus desire has got him to the level he is now. Cats players admitted that he was their go to man. Ablett was tagged and his players protected him and gave him the ball. IMO culture contributed to his status too. Exactly what the MFC don't not do. The Toump had a poor game against the lions and the players did not make an effort to give him the ball. A massive confidence killer IMO

Remember the days of old how the players decided to give Schwartz the ball his first game back from a knee injury. We have gone backwards

If the MFC had their own team in the AFL, I have no doubt that the club would sacrifice wins to develop players. Magner and Couch would play a role in protecting the youngsters, but they would not monopolise the midfield. Casey cannot exist without the the support of the club. We basically run Casey anyway. The coaching staff have got it wrong. Neeld got it wrong as did Bailey. The assistants are a product of Neeld. They coach for wins at the expense if developing AFL players

I have no idea OD. He has been held back developing as a one trick pony. That being a HBF. Only recently has he moved to a HFF. The reality is the club has not had the skills, or facilities (until recently) to develop players. PJ has got it right by saying the same

What I do know he played well and showed he had talent by playing some impressive games before breaking his leg.

You have been vocal saying he is not AFL quality. I have hope he can perform in the big league, if developed properly.

Yes Blease can't win the ball in and under and yes he can't tackle - that's why we (the voices of reason in this thread) are suggesting he plays more in the midfield. Same with Tapscott, can't get any loose ball at AFL level so let's teach him how to do it at VFL level. He also looks like he'll need to rotate into the midfield to ever make it at AFL so why not give him some time there.

I know I'm certainly not suggesting that Casey harm their record deliberately but they've won numerous games easily this year and would be an even better side if they had developed more midfielders. Particularly teaching Blease how to win a clearance for example would be a wonderful trait to have in their side.

As for Couch he'd benefit from proving he could play more roles at VFL level and it would help his game as well. At the moment (before his injury) he's played week after week of good inside midfield footy and not once looked like cracking it for a game. Isn't that the definition of stupid management of a guy playing in the seconds? I could imagine a game on a half back flank to show off what (if anything) he can do aerially and with outside disposal could paint him in a different light and get him another chance in the seniors. At the moment he's heading straight for the scrap heap.

And it's not like we are blaming Casey for deliberately stuffing with our players its just they can do better. A good example of a well managed player is Dom Barry. He'll be a wingman if he makes it at AFL level and that's where he's largely played in his first year which stints in the reserves if needed or up forward as well. If he's still at Casey next year with a bit more size I'd expect him to move inside to a degree to help that part of his game.

Might be a good question for some of the older boys, i am abit younger and haven't been around the club as long but,

how would you even begin to go about establishing a winning culture in a club like ours, the only real taste of winning we get is at casey and we obviously can't have all of our team playing there, our senior players have been losing for so long it's probably almost to be expected.
