The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Featured Replies

Lets be honest.. if you could pick 3 players out of these group and that Melbourne should target, who would they be and would you be willing to give away Jack Watts, Pick 2 and Colin Sylvia

Mathew Stokes

Dustin Martin

Mitch Robinson

Eddie Betts

Tom Rockliff

Dale Thomas

Nick Dal Santo

Adam Cooney

Most of those guys won't cost us anything more than $$$ as free agents

Just as there's no point judging him on his worst game I wouldn't be too quick to use his best game as the benchmark.

He's just a player. Good for him that he had a good one yesterday.

Fair enough, but it shows his quality hasn't disappeared, whether or not it was his best game of the year.

I'm hearing some pretty strong Choco/Dustin Martin package deal rumours...

beware

would you ask for Taylor adams and pick 2

or dylan shiel and a later pick

it's hard to judge the currency of the GWS players.

Taylor Adams, the player who wants to come home first,,, other opportunities will follow later.

The question is WHO would want to stay?? Sylvia and Watts likely to look elsewhere.

The question is WHO would want to come to MFC?

We cannot offer a winning satisfied environment. We cannot offer a premiership hope.

So who would come...

- players not getting a game and unlikely to

- disgruntled with current team

- players chasing money.

For the 9000th time.....Sylvia CANNOT BE TRADED. HE IS UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT.

Whew! I love your other midfielders though.

Oh Sheez my bad. Dont understand the rules too well as the AFL won't leave our ledendary game alone.

So, I'm kind of scared to ask....you might use capital letters again... but can we get anything for him then and would that compensation be equivilant to a 2nd round pick (20 - 40)?

Sorry, wasn't yelling at you ;)

A 2nd round pick would be lovely, but I'm thinking 3rd round, knowing the AFL.

I'm not sure why Jumbo is getting so grumpy with you and yes he can still be traded, but that scenario is highly unlikely.

The reason is that Col can go to whatever club he wishes. If our club felt he was gone and no point trying to match his offer, then we could try and negotiate with his intended club for a trade.

But this club is under no obligation to enact a trade and would in all likelihood, unless they wanted to offload someone for salary cap or not good enough reasons, tell us to get knotted.

That would then mean our compensation would fall under the AFL's compensatory pick panel.

If the AFL were to give us a priority pick (eg: Pick 3 as you intimated), then I reckon they'd give us virtually nothing for him because every club would have been complaining loud about it - probably end of third round.

If the AFL hadn't given us a priority pick or had just given us one at end of first round (ie: Pick 19), then I reckon they might feel OK about giving us a pick after our second round pick (eg: about 21).

Hope this helps.

In your list of draft kids, do you have a running defender and a pacey small forward as the first four are all true mids on top of Greenwood and Adams.

I acknowledged my capital letters and apologised. I wasn't grumpy, more a tad frustrated.

No probs - I was replying when you apologised and so missed it, otherwise wouldn't have mentioned it.

Hoping he can tell me who Lloyd Perris and Cameron Giles are - hoping Perris has Nova Peris' speed and Giles is a fighter like Peter.

#2 Melbourne – James Aish (SA – Mid/Def)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 08/11/1995
Recruited from: Norwood
Style: Corey Enright
Player comparison:
Range: 1-3
Profile: Aish is an elite user of the footy and just has more time and space than the next player. In space, in traffic, it doesn’t matter for Aish he has rare composure and continues to make the right decisions and never seems rushed. By both hand or foot he consistently uses it well and is one of the more duel sided players you’ll see at this young age and rarely misses a target. Strong mark overhead for his size and has a strong 1v1 game despite his lean build. Aish is an impressive athlete with his ability burst out of traffic with the pill, to sidestep and has a real burst of speed on him in a straight line also. Aish still needs to get stronger but that will come. Despite his lean build he is not a soft outside player and is very willing to get his hands dirty and go hard when it’s his turn but looks more likely to settle on a wing or back flank.

#15 Fremantle – Lewis Taylor (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 173cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 17/02/1995
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons
Style: Brent Harvey
Player comparison:
Range: 5-25
Profile: Taylor is a small midfielder with explosive pace and the ability to break away from contests, break the lines and use his agility to sidestep around opponents effortlessly. Can win his own footy as well as find plenty of it outside the contest and in the u18s is a big time accumulator. Excellent user of the footy on both sides and has the ability to do damage both through the midfield and up forward with his footskills finding targets but also finishing around goal. Just a shame he isn’t 10cm taller.

#7 Brisbane - Matt Crouch (VIC – Mid)
Height: 181cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 21/04/1995
Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels
Style: Luke Ball
Player comparison:
Range: 5-20
Profile: Crouch is an elite inside player. High production player and can contribute from season one. Real stoppage specialist and just thrives on the contested aspects of the game. Hard at the ball and a really natural inside extractor burrowing in, winning the ball and setting up the receivers outside of the pack by hand with that real inside distributing side of his game particularly excellent. He does it as well as any and just thrives on that contested ball type game as that clearance specialist. Crouch is also an exceptional tackler showing strong tackling technique and really going in hard with those tackles and it seems to be another area of the game that he just really enjoys. Athletically Matt is not nearly as explosive as his older brother Brad but has shown some improvement over the past season in his foot speed which is encouraging. Footskills only average by position. He’s not going to do damage by foot but his footskills are also on the improve and can be with further training solid at the next level. The aspect I do like with his footskills is that particularly in the forward half in those stoppage situations he’s very dangerous because if he gets his hands on it and can quickly get it onto his boot for a quick snap on either side.

#17 Hawthorn – Luke Dunstan (SA –Mid/Fwd)
Height: 185cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 29/01/1995
Recruited from: Woodville-West Torrens
Style: Brad Sewell (with better ability forward of centre)
Player comparison:
Range: 5-25
Profile: Dunstan is a dominant inside midfielder with a strong body. Has future captain potential having captained SA through the u18 championships and is highly regarded for his leadership abilities. Has played plenty of senior SANFL footy and has played some strong footy. Big time accumulator and a natural inside ball winner with the ability to win the clearances. Has very clean hands and that ability to be that real inside distributor with his work in close by hand as good as you’ll find really working to dish it off to those outside runners and get others involved. Not only is Dunstan an exceptional inside player but he can also swing forward, take a mark and hit the scoreboard when given the opportunity and I expect he will continue to be a very damaging player at the next level. Opinions on his kicking vary, but by position I’ve mostly been pretty happy with what he’s done not only finishing but also hitting his targets around the field. Not a particularly high level athlete with his pace below average and is more that strong bodied inside midfielder who can play right away.

#34 Sydney – Lloyd Perris (NSW/ACT – Mid)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 02/01/1995
Recruited from: St George
Style: Kieran Jack
Player comparison:
Range: 2nd round/3rd round
Profile: Another of those classic Sydney midfielders who just fits their drafting profile so perfectly. Perris is one of those high character guys with future leadership potential who just goes about his footy the right way and will almost certainly get the most out of his footballing ability. Perris has elite endurance and is a two real two way runner who can find plenty of the footy but then limit his direct opponents influence on the contest. He’s not a strong body but he has some real hardness over the footy and can win his own ball while also displaying ability on the outside. He’s also a really nice user of the footy both by hand and foot and seems to make the right decisions so Sydney have really got something in young Perris.

#54 Geelong – Cameron Giles (SA – KPD)
Height: 195cm, Weight: 93kg, DOB: 5/05/1995
Recruited from: Woodville-West Torrens
Style: Scott Thompson (NM)
Player comparison:
Range:
Profile: After Darcy Gardiner, Giles is probably that next best key defender. Through the u18 champs he played mostly as more of a shutdown defender which I don’t feel is as much his game but as more a rebounding defender he can be a factor with his points of difference at his size being his vision and footskills. Giles makes the right decisions more often than not seeing the right target but then he executes his kicks finding the right target and can hit them up over a variety of distances. Giles has a tendency to play relatively unaccountable brand of footy allowing him to be a real factor on the rebound and make best use of his ability by foot.

This was taken from http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/knightmares-2013-phantom-draft.983436/ however I disagree with the order. I feel we need midfielders and lots of them. Make the focus of 2013 draft on midfielders. Surely Melbourne will be placed bottom 4 next year and therefor use the 2014 season for key positioned players as well the rookie draft (I would like to see Jurrah back at Melbourne for a rookie spot. Make him work his a** off for a year and he might find a spot in 2015). Melbourne would be required to hire a player coach and player mentor (on and off the field - staying in regular contact with Jurrah) spacifcally for Jurrah.

Five midfielders in the TAC Draft while an additonal expreienced Greenwood & Adams join us. I think Melbourne also require a further backman and Giles looks the goods from what I have read/seen. In future it would be nice to see Frawley, Garland and McDonald as key backs with Giles either the loose man (helpful at 195cm) or as a KPP against dominant forwards. Add Terlich and Grimes tough nature (love to see him as our Hodgey) that is a dominant backline.

Add Aish, Taylor, Crouch, Dunstan, Perris, Greenwood, Adams, Viney, Trengove, Grimes, Jones, Tompass, Matt Jones (who should be on the interchange really) and cross my fingers, touch wood, Taggert ever comes on thats a very nice looking midfield.

There are a pleather of forwards too, Howe (who should be a wing/HFP player), Clark, Trengove (playing as an additional midfielder), Hogan, Fitzpatrick, Dawes and Jurrah??.

In 2014 Draft target small forward, Key forward (in case Clark & Jurrah dont make it), medium backman and another midfielder. Could look like the following

Pick 1-5 = Key Forward

Pick 20-25 = Small forward

Pick 40-45 = Midfielder

Pick 60-65 = Medium backman

Of course this is in the future but its unlikely we will be above bottom 4.

No way we will take Lewis Taylor at pick 3 and Crouch won't go through to 19.

Taylor is a player we need. Agreed,we require inside mids but Melbourne does not have many skilful midfielders who can kick accuratly. Here is what Taylor can offer. Freeman/Dunmont/Sheed will be ok if Crouch is gone but someone here will slip in a strong midfield draft

What happens if GWS pick up Buddy and they pass on Tom Boyd on their first pick?

Then I shall open up the bar fridge, grab a cold one and look forward to Boyd standing besides Hogan, Dawes, Clark, Howe. I need a napkin I think, drooling.

Taylor at 3, Crouch and Dunstan at 19 & 20. Please ... fantasy island. Perris is swans scholarship holder. Sylvia cannot be traded. please ... get some things within range.

Trades: on my shopping list - Levi Greenwood(NMFC), Patrick Karnezis(Lions), Jordan Schroder (Geel), Jarryd Lyons (Crows), Mav Weller (Suns), Matt Rosa (Eagles)

In draft

Pick 2 - Aish ... or Nathan Freeman (both guns)

Pick 20 -Patrick Cripps or Billy Hartung

Pick 38- Zac Jones or Zac Jones (he is a must)

Might snap up a Crouch, Sheed or Scharenberg if we get a PP by some miracle

I am standing by my 'Band 3 Compensation (ND21) for Sylvia if we don't sign any other FAs' belief.

I have spent 3 weeks watching EVERY melbourne game again

You are my new ambassador of quan.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
