I have seen but a few highlights of the U-18 carnival and I hope we pick this guy up.

Our recruiters have seen more than just the one game or this carnival, they have been following these kids for a few years now. Sheed looked great in the game against Vic Country but it was interesting to see where he was on the afl website top 20, now these guys don't always get it right but I noticed the guy that did it was involved with Kevin Sheahan when the AA team was announced so I guess he has more info than just this carnival.

Sheed seems to be coming home strong but the broken collar bone puts a spanner in the works now and makes it harder to assess his true position. The WA boys on here might give a better insight on what he's done over there and how he is perceived.

The bits I've seen of Aish are all class, he is a great kick and has fantastic perception and peripheral vision (the things you can't teach) which makes him a really good prospect. He came into the comp under done and seemed to be the only one being tagged in the games I've seen. It's unusual in this comp to put a hard tag on someone but they couldn't let him loose, he would carve up the opposition. Some have likened him to Cotchin but to me he uses the ball better, his decisions and use are right up there.

Kelly I want to look at over the weekend, have a look back at his games but he is rated very highly as well for his run, clean hands and use of the ball.

Scharanberg looks good but it would have been better to see what he could do through traffic, he has no trouble picking kicks up off half back. The recruiters would know him well and I'm sure they will be watching his SA form when he gets back home.

Back to Sheed, the injury may push him down the rankings and he could well fall through to our next pick if he doesn't get back on the park this year. Who knows??

Can someone give me a run down on aish and Kelly.

Aish is similar to Trent Cotchin. He plays both inside and outside, has great decision making, great skills, is able to evade others and move well through traffic. I'd say he has a better kick than Cotchin, one of the best kicks in this draft, but slightly less core strength than Cotchin, which is why he uses quick lateral movement to shrug by tacklers in traffic.

Kelly is a running machine. He would have to be at the top with the beep tests. He covers a heap of ground, gets to the right spots and always winds up having more ball than most others. He uses it well too, good skills, always in space so has time to make good decisions, but is very much an outside runner at this stage. It's hard to think of a player comparison. He plays a similar role to Gaff at West Coast, but he doesn't play a lot like him if that makes sense?

It ain't about the lark, and I'm certainly not claiming to know a whole heap about him but I believe my judgment is usually pretty good and I believe Sheed will be the midfielder of the draft. I guess we'll see in time.

I rate Aish as the next in line but I don't see Cotchin similarities, I wouldn't say he's explosive like Cotchin is. He has a lovely side step and lateral vision, uses the ball well and is a great runner. He reminds my of Bernie Vince.

Cotchin has too many strong attributes to be compared to Aish. Cotchin barely has a weakness. Aish is more of an outside runner.

Don't be fooled by numbers all the time folks. Morton raked up uncontested possession time and time again during the carnival. Kelly does the same. There's not much about him that excites me. He is classy but is way too light on and isn't damaging enough. Again, don't be fooled by meaningless possessions.

Sheed on the other hand gets big numbers, big contested possession numbers, kicks goals and has a lethal left foot. He carries a serious amount of arrogance and confidence in my eyes and he looks to be really driven.

He's our man, I'm saying it now. We must get him.

I agree almost completely with your assessments STMJ. I haven't seen much vision really and don't know what it is, but what I have seen I just have a feeling Sheed will be the standout mid of this draft. Billings looks like too much of a flanker, Scharenberg a 3rd tall utility rather than a pure midfielder, Kelly relies too much on receiving uncontested possessions. The only one I'm unsure of is Aish; he's highly talked up and clearly has "class" but I haven't seen enough to know if he's a "head over the ball" midfielder as well or just a classy player. Dunstan I haven't seen much of either, he looks ok but I just like the look of Sheed better.

My choice (on the limited amount ive seen and read) would be Sheed over Aish but would love to grab a PP and get both (though I doubt it will happen). FWIW Knightmare on BF was asked whether Aish compared to Toumpas and he said Aish was better so I assume they play similar roles. For mine we need a player to help Jones and Viney win the clearances first and then we can work on getting the rest of our midfield sorted.

Another big tick for Sheed is it seems he's a goal-kicking mid, an attribute which is vital for mids to have these days.

I forgot about him for a second there, reminds me of a goddard/mundy type player and would be a really good get,

now that you mention it I would be more inclined to take him and aish simply because of the potential go home factor with sheed
