Smoke screen for what?

i get the idea much is being as a nod and a handshake behind closed doors

Jackson presents the straight bat,,,but he's pragmatic

I was at the GWS Brunch and that's exactly what Jackson said! 1.5 million only and it was to pay out contracts. The AFL only want to make sure our board is ok and the rest is up to us. Jackson said the rest is a media beat up!

Hutchy just said the MFC coaching candidates are down to a field of 5

he also said that Dean Laidley has been told he isn't one of the 5

craig would be one imo

Ratten

Parkin is on the sub committee and has a lot of respect for Ratten, I don't think we should go there. He just doesn't have the x factor to engender hope in the playing group and with the supporters. I think Craig is probably on the outer now, leaving 3 realistic options I would think.

did anyone attend the club luncheon before the gws game?

i heard jackson said the afl money was 1.5M and not 2.75M

Also said the only payback was the afl having a say on board approvals

No cash for a coach

Said what is in the press is more to appease other clubs than the reality

Any truth in this

Any comments

heres an explanation DC,,,

don't take any notice of what I tell you, & certainly not what you may hear in a pre game luncheon. the reality is to be found in the results.

I would be fairly happy with any of those five, finallly seems like the club is getting serious about improving, remember Ratten had Carlton playing some really good football at the start of last year, flag favourites at one point until they got a few injuries

Carlton got smashed up by Essendrug in Round 5 last year, and i mean smashed up. That is when the first inklings of the supplements started. Carlton were furious.

Ratten lost about 6 players that day to long term injuries. Broken bones. Their season was over.

I wouldn't say no to Ratten completely.

He has unfinished business.

Not my first choice but he is underrated by many.

Edited by why you little

The other side of that being he had imo abit more to work with at Carlton, Gibbs, murphy and co had Judd to lead them, we don't really have anyone like that so developing mids is a much tougher ask.

sure. But we still have the draft and FA before next year.

Players will be recruited.

I hope the coach is decided if not announced so they can start pulling strings and get that under control, an experienced mid for mine would be top of the priority list, as well as inside mids from the draft.

sure. And Ratten is a chance because he knows midfield players.

No to Ratten for me.

Ratten never impressed me as mid field coach for Melbourne.

Maybe it's just that we haven't had a half decent mid field for 13 years.

so, it perplexes me then that the press don't give this more widespread coverage

what's going on here?

The year Ratten was our mid field coach we were top of the ladder at the round 18 mark. If that doesn't impress you then your a hard man to impress chippy!

id have the rat as mid coach

Then we lost the next 5 games. The midfield did not stand up when required.

From memory he was only there for one season. Imagine what he could have achieved with a couple of pre seasons under the belt

Beat me to it.

And Melbourne's falling off towards the end of the season in the mid-00s was certainly not exclusive to that year. They did it basically every year leading into the finals.

We should have seen all of this coming. The club was never great at its height in the 00s. It was only ever "really good", and this always seemed to be enough.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
