WYL, the 'G' as it is is killing us... its a part of the reason have ended up with generations of ordinary boards since the world changed around the 60's as you say.

We haven't had a training venue, or anywhere to develop our support base, not having a suburban ground & the established supporter momentum that grows from that.

A place where ordinary folk can start to feel involved & accepted at training days/nights, & wander in for a drink, or a bit of a bite.

Or to simply watch training on a wet day thru the windows.

IF we had of had this arrangement we would possibly have an enormous support base like the Pies & the Blues... we don't because we have not looked after that support base & the MCC has a lot to do with this.

As is IMO that a lot of our people who have wanted onto our boards in the past have maybe been the wrong types to run a Footy club...

we need Both a training Hub, inner Melbourne, & we need eventually to grow Casey into a Boutique stadium... the inner Melbourne training Hub for our list players to train in season, & Casey to play our home VFL games & the occasional AFL game against the likes of GWS.... but it isn't ready just yet, IMO.

But I think we should Aim to do both WYL, Hub & Casey boutique ground... but the Hub is critical or our inner suburban support base will wither further.

I get the feeling you just do Not want to visit the Casey ground, or even a Social Training Hub? only interested in things 'g', WYL ?

Pulling 80,000 crowds out of 100,000 is acceptable.

And let me add the pulling of 70-80,000 atendance back in the day has little to do with nostalgia.

It came about because Swooper Northey had a team that played hard competitive footy. They were a team to be feared.

Not like the over paid excuse of today. Half an hour and then breakdown totally. Strong culture attracts big crowds.

WYL do you realise why Carlton don't want a boutique stadium at E-gate, or at the Whitten Oval?

One thing would be, they could make money hiring out Prices Park for small attendence games, for doing nothing, whilst they play at the 'G'... while the doggies & north & maybe Us, suffer.

Prices Park WILL happen, if we all let it. IMO it should Not.

the Catters make a motza playing their chosen games down at the Kitty Tray, whether they be small attendance games, or difficult opponents... the cats would draw patrons from all over the Western part of the state... involving all those people with the Cats franchise.

the AFL need another boutique ground out Sth East, the opposite side of the Bay to Geelong, to service these types of games, & to service the East of the state... we do not have a strong hold on either Our areas, inner Melbourne, or the Casey area as Yet.

.... & I blame the Clubs ignoring of our grass roots supporters needs, in favour of the members of the north...

Once the old Olympic Stand was bulldozed, the supporters lost their last contact with the players via the Players Race, which was repositioned completely within the MCC exclusion zone...

the club has been dieing, but because of the MCC & the Boards, which mix & socialise & are influenced over there... no wonder our Boards of 40 years have failed us, & our young players keep failing to develop.... just as the club has failed to develop,, its all part & parcel of the same attitudes... the northern lights... # no one is saying relinquish the 'G'... but some are saying we need to diversify... we need more than the one failing Iron, in the fires of Hell...

We would be better having all our facilities in the Southern Stand, than what weve currently got... at least the supporters (all supporters & members) would be able to feel involved with the club.

Those days are gone mate, it's not suburban footy anymore all AFL "clubs" are just competing franchises, some with a longer and more decorated history/foundation than others. Spending millions to get a training base so a few hundred supporters can have a beer and a pie on a Thursday night would be just flushing money down the toilet.

not at all, we have a training ground next to the BubbleDome... all we need is to build with assistance,,, our Offices watching over the training ground, with a cafe on ground floor, & an upstairs area with offices, lounge/small function area, etc.. that would start it off.

and other clubs are returning to rejigging their original grounds where they can... the Tigers will have a fantastic arrangement. the pies, outstanding facilities...

the bombers wanted to but couldn't get the desired room to grow so are relocating. all these power clubs recognise the value & need of their grass roots supporters.

... the MCC has caused MFC to be all tip, & No Iceberg.

We can't be making much money out of any of our fixtures against GWS, GCS, Freo, Port, Crows or the Eagles. We've got 7 home fixtures against interstate sides this year including a Darwin game against Brisbane. The Crows are the only interstate team we don't play at home this season. We could probably expect more of the same in the coming years if we don't march up the ladder. A legacy of CH7 wanting more and more 'high rating' games is that the low drawing teams will play each other more often. It's already happening.

Just checking the crowd numbers at 'AFL Tables' confirms that whenever we play an interstate team, we don't often reach the standard 23,000 to 27,000* break even mark. And that break even mark is for the MCC/MCG Trust. Although we do have some sort of 'other' deal with the MCC, I'm not sure if that's dependant on our team playing a minimum amount of home games at the MCG.

We've been known to pull decent crowds against Sydney and Brisbane but against the other 6 interstate sides we continually struggle to reach the break even mark. Most of the time we're nowhere near it. When we've been travelling well, our crowd numbers against Freo, Port, the Eagles and Crows haven't been great.

So what's the answer? Do a deal with the interstate team we're playing? (like the Brisbane deal) Princes Park would be a real option if it is brought up to AFL standard. And then there's Cairns, Canberra and Darwin.

We've heard that Jackson is projecting a loss of between 2.5 and 3 million this season. The media are forecasting another substantial loss next year (which the club didn't deny) If we're going to be fixtured 5 - 7 home games against interstate teams on a regular basis, then the club needs to find a way to make decent money out of these games. We were drawn to play 7 home games against interstate teams in 2011 and we had another 6 home games against interstate teams in 2012.

Round 2 this year i hit mine. I don't like what i see on the field. tbh i haven't liked much since 186. The club is not running properly at all levels.

We are not competitive anywhere.

I am still a member and if we get a new Board and an experienced coach i will happily buy 2 full memberships.

I do not trust the present regime with anymore cash.

They have no idea how to use it.

The easiest fix is to refurbish Princes Park. Build a decent sized carpark or fix up the existing car parking arrangements. Forget about how non Carlton games were played there in the past. A new deal involving all the relevent parties could be arranged. Open the ground up for all the low drawing fixtures and make sure all the participating home teams all make good cash out of it.

Kardinia Park has merit too. Geelong will want more games down there to help pay off the cost of the new stands. As it is, the ground is only used 6 or 7 times a year. Might be a much better fit for North or the Bulldogs and if the Cats were confident about making 500-600k out of these type of games, then offers may be made.

.. actually they do, they started last year repairing the recent damage thats been done to the club over the last 10 years.

even if you don't like it WYL. they are on the right track. so keep your money & your hands in your pocket, & let the people who know footy, fix it.

you don't even recognise when the hard work has begun, stripping back the rot. so stepping backwards to fix things is too much for you... sorry mate but one day you'll catch on.

the AFL are now onboard & with PJ & other profiled MFC supporters coming in to help, we need some positivity going forward, & less bleating from those with their tails pointing into the wind.
