MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION

From quarter time. He misses tackles and his disposal is mostly deplorable. And my god Blease is soft and his disposal is overrated.

Blease had a shocker today. Looks down on confidence even at VFL level.

Thought Joel was ok given it was his first game back from injury.

Tigerland just went down at Flemington....omen perhaps?....just sayin.

Blease had a shocker so based on Neeld logic he should be first picked to play Freo next week?

You can still be the best MFC player while having a shocker at Casey these days...

Ripping to know that we plan to be as competitive for "as long as we can". That the objective - hell, I was a bit apprehensive about tomorrow but now I can go with a full understanding of what the coach thinks we can achieve.

When was the last time the word "win" was used at our footy club.

Should be a great game. Glad Deledio is the captain of my dreamtean.

It's terrible 31,727 paid members at the club and the coach can't even set out to win games

Do you genuinely believe Neeld isn't thinking about winning? Do you genuinely believe we are literally only planning to be competitive?

Saying we plan on being competitive is not mutually exclusive with thinking we're trying to win.

Can we please just be fair and accept that what Neeld is trying to do is attempt to avoid mockery by saying 'we can win' despite our form indicating otherwise. I don't particularly agree with our continual falling back on our inexperience, and I don't particularly like Neeld continually saying 'it's a rebuild of a rebuild of a rebuild'. But I'm not that stupid to read his comments there as saying we're not trying to win at all.

It pains me to say that I really don't care about the result of this game. Even if we were to pull of the impossible and get a win it would not fix anything - we would still lose next weeks game and the week after etc etc.

I just don't know what to look forward to anymore - it can't be game day, not the draft (sick of waiting for development), free agency?, end of the year?, new coach?

What do we have to look forward to now?

Feels like we are chasing rainbows only theres no gold at the end.

That's what long journeys always feel like. Hoping for a win tomorrow would be good, but I think at this stage we just need to look out for signs of improvement in individuals. What else can we do?

Round of Upsets, draws, narrow losses and strange umpiring?? Come on Dees your up next.

Viney, Terlich, M. Jones, Frawley, Tapscott, Gawn, Dawes, Howe, Evans, Dunn and McKenzie were all better than Sellar last week.

That's 11 names.

Tapscott and Dawes had 7 and 9 touches respectively and were well beaten granted with limited opportunity. Dunn and McKenzie did nothing but help Ablett to 38 touches. Sellar under great pressure beat his immediate opponent. That is one seriously biased view you have.

Ablett didn't rip us a new one despite his millions of touches, so you've got to credit Dunn and McKenzie for that. In addition, McKenzie kept Harbrow almost possessionless when he played on him.

Dawes and Tapscott provided a lot of defensive pressure, with Dawes involved in four of our goals. McKenzie was involved in two of our goals, and Dunn often provided the punch over the point line that stopped a mark from being taken on the goal-line. His timely fists allowed us to rebound from defense, and would certainly have resulted in a number of scoring opportunities if the players up the ground had kicked the ball better.

Dawes led well all day, and although he wasn't rewarded very often he still involved himself in almost half our score.

Tapscott manned his mark very well and forced his opponent to kick to 50/50 or worse contests time after time. He also layed a number of tackles and caused four or five turnovers on the day. There was a passage of play in (I think) the third quarter where he made about four efforts on his own to win the ball off two Suns opponents with no-one else anywhere near him. He deserves to be recognised for that effort alone, and it most certainly was not his only one of that kind last week.

Sellar came 12th in my rankings, though it was so close that you'd be welcome to put him higher than Dunn and McKenzie if you'd like. There are 22 players in a team. That's plenty of room to be out of the Bests and still not be anywhere near the Worsts.

Don't call me biased, because that's one thing I'm not.

Absolutely [censored] weak. God I hope he gets moved on quickly. His pre-game excuses are beyond the point of embarrassing. The man would struggle to motivate Tony Robbins to get out of bed.

Chris Newman out, can't hurt.

(It's still the match preview thread, right?)

The man's biggest sin seems to be that he's telling the truth in an industry whose first language is the telling of lies.

Shame on him for not telling the punters that we're going to [censored] the Tigers today.

Jack, the problem is that it is the same defeatist attitude both Daniher and Bailey had. His job isn't to predict what will happen one way or the other. His aim is to win, that is all he should be saying.

All Neeld should be saying is we are trying to win. Being competitive is a non-negotiable, it should be expected of every player in every game, not an aim.

It feels as though Neeld has just continued from where Bailey left off with all this "competitive" talk. Mind boggling to say the least.

Funny but I haven't heard Sheedy use the W word lately and yet everybody heaps praise on them even after an 83 point thrashing.

Neeld has been consistent throughout with his message about his inexperienced team.

The public pressure on him will bring about his downfall before he sees out the time to get his job done but good luck to the next guy because he'll need to be a genius to survive under the microscope of some until the younger brigade get the games under the legs that are necessary to win against the top sides.

Sellar played on their main forward target who despite lack of midfield pressure had 3 marks and 2 goals. To me that is someone who clearly won his immediate battle.

Regardless of how effective they were you cannot possibly call Ablett having 38 touches a win for Dunn and McKenzie (granted good on Harbrow early).

Tapscott you are saying was good based on statistically one effective tackle, he "manned the mark well" and one passage of play.

Lets carry this over to todays game and hopefully we are both debating how good the effort was by all rather than nit picking mediocre performances.

So it's fine to get flogged if before the game you state that this would happen?

Well said Jack.

Its a pity he did not see fit to tell the truth to members and supporters at the start of the year.

Its amazing how useful the "truth" can be when you want it.

More worryingly, I think he believed everything he said over the pre-season. I don't think he lied to us, he just didn't recognise what was going on, which is probably worse.

Even the almighty Ben-Hur/Hannabal thought we would be better this year after watching training and he's never wrong...

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
