Nathan Jones and I have a lot in common.

We both suffer the terrible fate of having to watch MFC players that aren't Nathan Jones play football every week.

I felt for Moloney last year, I feel for Jones this year.

I hope we get a coach in before Jones goes the same way as Moloney.

Personally, I wish we still had Beamer, but for me, the difference is NJ is still leaving it all out there, flogging after flogging.

Yeah, i feel sorry for him too.

Male Pattern Baldness is a tough thing for men to go through, and Nath had to deal with it at such a young age too.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you Nathan Jones!

We at Demonland will always support you, hair or no hair!

Do you think putting a C next to Jones name will make him a better leader than he currently is. Can you not be a leader without having a C next to your name.

Will Jones be a better leader being capt?

Is Grimes and JT becoming better leader by having the captaincy?

Ok, let's have no captains or vice captains at all... we can become an anarcho syndiclastic football club where everyone is a leader.

The reason there is a captain is so that there is one person on the field of play who can take the responsibility of pulling the team together when things are starting to go awry. Unfortunately, it often happens that the added responsibility that goes with the position can detract from the players ability to focus on his own game... I see Jones as being one player who would relish the added pressure and raise his game to another level while inspiring his team mates.

Love Jonesy absalute Gun of the comp goes in hard everyweek i have no doubt he'll be a one club champion and will bring the best out of the likes of Viney and Tuompus

One person?? That is where you have it totally wrong. Its a team responsibility to pull the team together when things are starting to go awry. Do you think Lenny Hayes stands back and waits for Roo to do something or Mitchell or Hanneberry or pendles or bartel???? You dont need to be captain to show leadership or do things that can pull your team together when things are starting go one way.

The only difference between Jones and the the two Jacks should be the jacks do a bit more off field media, promotions, sponsorship commitments etc

Ok, you win... lets abolish the role of captain and vice captain as they are obviously superfluous to what goes on on the field anyway, and simply give the two Jacks the new titles of MR and VMR (Media Rep and Vice Media Rep).

Props for bringing Anarchist theory into this HT ;)

It's interesting to see clubs handling leadership differently. We currently have a 9 person leadership group. Seems to have lost it's value when half the side is in it, no? Doggies went for one Captain and a revolving door for the VC position. I think they have a similar leadership void to us, although there's seems exacerbated by concerns over senior players being able to get on the field, where ours is a genuine void.

If nothing else I think Jones should be rewarded with the captaincy if we are still crap after 2014. We'll really need to switch things up anyways, and you have to reward a personality that is widely regarded as our best player, not just our 'going to be' best player.

As far as leadership goes, just watched 2006 semi dees v freo. There were 6 dockers still playing (Pavlich, Sandilands, Crowley, Mundy, McPharlin, Johnson), while we had 3 (Sylvia, Davey, Jones). what really was obvious though was the difference in the ferocity of the Dees then and the Dees now.

If only we could lay tackles that stuck......

Each year I think he has just about reached his peak. Each year he proves me wrong.

Never more so than last year

I know. Just pointing it out.

I'm picking that they're mates who had a falling out over a beer on this. I feel like he's won some sort of bet there.

? Or he just hates the mike hunt.

I'd go in to bat for Jonesy too, with the amount of crap he's dealt with at the Dees.

Actually yeah... It's possible you could just go in reverse order through Jones threads to see every naysayer and raise their misdemeanours.

lol who could be bothered doing that, some A hole on here was having a go at me before the West Coast game regarding selections and how we should line up in the forward line.

Pretty much nailed how we would line up and the players to come in on Thursday morning, i felt like finding the thread and giving it too him but who could be F'd.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
