Tom Mitchell

Hi all,

I know it's early in the season but I am curious what everyone thinks of Tom Mitchell as trade in target? Obviously he has suffered from some injuries however from what I have seen and read this young man is phenomenal. He grew up playing U16s with Viney, an absolute ball magnet and already well built.

His father Barry still works in Melbourne and a decent offer from the Dees just might tear him away from the Swans already tight salary cap.

So what are your thoughts? We are in need of some gun midfielders still with plenty of years left in them to match our list, yes there is D.Thomas

but every club will chase him and Melbourne's recent track record might not exactly enthuse him. So thinking outside the box I think Mitchell could be a real go-er (Owww yeah he should be out of contract at the end of this year unless if he initially signed a 3 year one).

Thoughts? Discuss, post the videos if people please.

Didn't he pick Sydney?

Beautiful hands in that video.

Anyway... I think he's too young to leave. He'll be content in his position as a developing player at least for the next year or so.

It's too hard to get those guys to leave.

We kind of have to wait and hope he can't crack the team and then will develop with more senior footy like Josh Kennedy.

Yes he was - but Garry Ablett was also a F/S for Geelong, and Dale Thomas has also stated ultimately he wants to stay at the Pies although due to cap pressure if the right

deal can't be struck he'll walk (and he is more likely to join the likes of Malthouse at the Blues than us).

So going back to Tom Mitchell my point being is he is available and as a previous F/S doesn't mean he is now off limits, so he should be considered.

YES he did knock back a decent deal from GWS as a potential U17 recruit, but now that the Sydney salary cap is stretched to the limits we can throw an offer at him that they

can't match. His father himself wasn't a one club player, and his family currently reside around Melbourne, he played under 16's footy with Viney so that too could help sway

him.

Like the vast majority of trades clubs discuss they never eventuate. But this is definitely worth consideration, especially due to the fact that your high end clubs with

tight salaries can't scoop us on this one due to their recent on field success.

I saw him play colts at Claremont a few years ago and he was very good. great with his hands and displayed great awareness and vision in close confines. Will find it tough to break into Sydney's midfield and could be worth a crack but in all honesty I have paid no attention to him since he moved from WA. I wouldn't give to much away for him though I have to say, whilst they are a quality midfield 2 years in the AFL system without a game should reduce your currency.

Saw Barry Mitchell having a chat with Paul Couch at the Casey game on the weekend..

I would like us to throw plenty of $$$ at Toby Greene. He will be a superstar.

Signed with GWS til the end of 2015.

There's no way GWS would let him go anyway.

I will tread the line carefully here but he is a 19 year old Dane Swan. Whether either of them actually do anything bad when they're constantly out noone knows but it's the image that looks bad. Greene will have that same image in a few years and this year it seems to be effecting his footy.

There is no shortage of quality young mids at GWS, Dylan Shiel & Adam Treloar are two I really like the look of. Dom Tyson showed a bit last year to

Given several of the swans senior players are nearing the end of their careers, I should think they'd find room to keep him if he is that good.

Apart from $, why would he want to come to MFC? We wouldn't pay him massive dollars. Big money tends to go to established 24-27 yr olds, such as Mitch or Dawes. Swans will give him opportunities in time.

Still, no harm in trying. But our priority must surely be for an experienced star mid with leadership skills.

Do you know him somehow Ig?

Suspected that would be the case - was just a wish more than anything else.

There is harm in trying. This kind of kids game only destabilises our current list and players think they are no more than swap cards. Better to build our own brand than launch fanciful raids on premiership clubs.

Mate, we've been building our own brand for 7 yrs without any real success. What did our fanciful raids on Bris and Coll net? Clark and Dawes.

I think a mix of our young draftees and some recruited from other clubs is what will happen. Given our culture has been terrible for so long, an injection of enthusiasm and professionalism from outside is not a bad thing.

Players swap clubs regularly now. Rarely do they swap without agreeing to it. It's 2013, not 1973.

All I know is we are in dire need of some quality mids. People are getting their undies in a twist because we got Toumpas over Wines. Mitchell will solve that issue with he

and Viney as the in and under hard ball getters, a pair that will be able to stand up and challenge the so called "GWS juggernaut" and GC Suns teams in years to come.

With Hogan coming in we will have a very nice forward line set up. I think the odds are significantly against us trying to recruit a STAR for our mid, so the club needs to

think outside the box (like they did to get Clark) and from a risk/ benefit perspective Mitchell is a real go-er.

As for doing harm poaching from a premiership side it doesn't worry me at all. If the club wants to be strong they need to do it and not shy away. They need to set the

structures in place to poach other teams and back themselves in to retain players that want to stay (obviously a few wins will help that).

ill tread slightly less carefully, the bloke is a menace. Probably better he stays at gws

But i dont think its Affecting his game heaps. Runs really hard in a game and goes hard at the ball as well but isn't a great user of the ball. I think that's what's hurting his game. He reminds of a scully or Palmer as a player who starts his career on fire but then goes backwards when they try to work out how to use the ball much better

WOWZA this is the first I've heard of this, where did this rumour originate. I guess Greene never struck me as that kind of bloke. GOOD NEWS for us then I guess lol

wow.

Get him in.

1973 was around the time when big transfers started happening, with North buying a premiership, (Davis, Rantall, Wade) and Melbourne getting Ditterich on the back of the ten year rule, not to mention Topaz Tilbrook. Mitch Clark was already on the move, not a father-son at the beginning of his career. I think Dawes was let go to get Lynch, wasn't he?

On the topic of potential targets, Anthony Miles seems to have fallen out of favour at GWS, i was really impressed with him last year and i know him personally and he's a fantastic bloke, what does everybody think of him as a potential target?

Errr, so you're giveing evidence to support recruiting other players now?!!

I think you missed the point BD.... being that we won't know if he wants to come to us until we try. A mix of players we develop and those from other clubs that suit our needs is ideal. That's called building our own brand.

Giving numerous games to marginal young draftees who don't come good is what we have done for the last 7-10 yrs. Given our list is considered poor by most non-MFC people, we would certainly benefit from an injection of high quality mids. If the FD believe Mitchell fits our needs, they'd be crazy not to have a go.

There is not one team in the AFL that does not poach players from other teams.

I'd like Dylan Shiel as well. either or will do. -_-

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
