Bugler gone?

I noticed there was no bugular today. I doubt he was having a week off. Has he gone with Cameron. Maybe they had been trying to get rid of him and cameron demanded he stay.

I must say no one noticed around me that he wasnt here so he wasnt missed to much.

It was good just to have a team run out to the song and thats it.

What was going on when we ran out onto the ground? What was playing? The song didn't start until after we were through the banner.

"Enter Sandman" was still playing as the team was hovering in front of the banner.

Honestly I don't know why we need a song to "run out to" as it takes 10 seconds to run up the players race to the boundary.

It should just be Grand Old Flag loud and several times over.

And isn't it obvious? The bugler has been fired.... out of a cannon... into the Yarra.

Is this that thing they were talking about over the summer, about having some song playing as we run out?

I hate it. I hate it more than the bugler. Get rid of it.

Why does this club continually think it needs to try these pathetic attempts at being 'cool'? The bugler, the 'Grand New Flag', the bagpipers, Nick McCallum's talks before the game, now this song crap.

Robbo seems to do OK on game day though. I think he has found his niche as King of the Kids.

I think Robbo has replaced Nick McCullum. I didnt even notice the song we ran out to. Oh well. I wonder if that was Peter Spargos first thing he thought of. Remove the bugular.

Good one Jack, I suppose we will announce a new sponsor next week GILLETT the makers of cut throat razors

Finally...
I JUST KNEW IT WAS CAMERON SCHWAB BEHIND ALL THAT CRAP! (though the bugler was introduced before he came back wasn't he?)

I've never seen Cameron Schwab and the bugler in the same room....Not saying anything, but food for thought.

I have it on good authority that the bugler turned up sporting a beard (at least it was a 3-4 day growth) and the acting CEO took one look and sent him home.

Hairlip overnight. :)

Tell him to practice out at the Whitten Oval, they love playing Dirges over there.

Have to admit it was good to hear the Buglar pipe up from the second tier with around a minute to go today. I had a smile

Probably the best use for him, rather than before the game, could be a bit like Joffa's jacket...

Yep. Only boast when you're certain it can't come back and bite you in your bugular.

I'm still don't like it but if he is a private citizen in the stands doing it, who cares? I was just against him doing it on the ground before the boys ran out. I agree with Stuie. It could be a bit like Joffa's jacket. Wheel it out when we win.

My brother tells me that the bugler was playing at every station along the dandenong line before the game. Not sure if it was official or he was doing it as Joe Citizen.

It works a lot better when the siren's about to go and we're going to win.

If I ever hear it in a close game where we might lose, I'll scream, though.

Must have been official as he was on the train with the mascot and Dees staff.

My favourite Joffa moment is ANZAC day 2009.

Joffa dons the jacket with the Pies about 16 up 26 minutes in.

5 minutes later...

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
