Tom Gillies - what did the recruiters see?

Jack Watts - I have been in his corner for the whole 4 years. But he is not an AFL footballer. Absolutely horrible and embarrassing tonight.

Dropped chest marks - Jamar, Watts, Nicho, Howe

Spread - we can't and we don't. Forward or back.

Was Heppel covered in dung and no-one liked getting near him?

Footy involves running. We didn't.

I think our midfield coach is Brian Royal. Sack him.

Won't argue with you on any point there, other than Howe. He may have F'd up, but I really do think it's a bit rich to bring Howe in for criticism on marking. He has enough form to forgive an anomaly.

Tom Gillies is the worst player to ever play for Melbourne. He got more goals kicked on him tonight than possessions! Pathetic.

Tom Gillies is the worst player ever.

Players go back to VFL to work on certain aspects of their game, if he is not at Casey next week.....

Howe was good tonight - I'll give you that, but early on he dropped a couple of easy ones so had to include him.

I think it is most unfair to suggest Gillies is the worst to ever play for Melbourne. There have been contenders in the past, and there's quite a few out there now. In a way its kind of interesting to consider who the worst players were. But that's what its come to for Melbourne supporters. Will we be beaten by a record margin? Will we get any contested possessions? Will we get a clearance or not? It's like watching footage of a natural disaster - horrible but somehow you feel compelled to watch.

But seriously, wait until we run up another season of losses and then perhaps the supporters can have a reverse B&F.

I watched the warm up with interest tonight and from that moment it was clear what was coming. We looked lazy and disinterested. There was no sense of urgency. Most players were just walking and at best half jogging. We hear this constant rubbish about elite mind sets and professional cultures. How is it then that we can turn up and not be bothered giving an effort? It is the same when the players head to their positions ahead of each quarter. They stroll! Take a look at Nick Riewoldt they next time he starts a match. He sprints to the goal square and demonstrates intent! We looked defeated before a ball had been bounced.

I'd rather have Andrew Lamprill than Gillies. And we all know how good he was.

All obvious points really. Heppel was left to rampage at will until half time. Either we had no one who was willing or capable of running with him and trying to shut him down (which i just don't believe) or Neeld isn't capable at this level.

The whole team lacks belief!

The point is, why hasn't Neeld been able to address any of these issues until now after 2 pre seasons? Will he survive if we lose to GWS? Why did Lyon recommend Bailey over Sheedy and Neeld before an interim/caretaker coach and then Malthouse? And why did the board ask for Garry Lyon's input anyway? (i could keep going but i'm getting too tired now and there's just too many unanswered shitty questions about this club to worry anymore).

A guy called Sellar is quickly making this into an artform. Two sitters in two weeks. I was watching him mark in the warm up and he was only just clinging to those under little pressure. His confidence is shot.

Meanwhile, on Howe's marking...you don't try taking hangers in the back half. He should have been dragged for that dropped hanger in the back fifty. Two seconds later he kicked it out of bounds on his left foot. He tried for probably three quarters, but his discipline lets him down.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
