Rodan and Byrnes - Why?

I actually thought that Rodan showed some glimpses on Sunday - some clangers too, but who didn't. I also thought the same about Byrnes. The delivery to our forwards was that poor, that he couldn't get a sniff most of the time. However, when he did get around the ball, I thought he looked okay. Incidentally, it seemed for most of the game that we were just playing one forward (Clark) such was the poor effort in presenting and leading. When Clark went off the ground, we had absolutely nothing.

I agree with this. The major concern for me however has always been Rivers out, Gillies in.

And Sunday's performance did nothing to change that.

And Rivers performance yesterday confirmed it again. Ouch.

They were brought in to provide some leadership off the field. My gut now says leave them there, and use their spots on the field to blood some of the youngsters. Might as well look to a few years down the track cause this one's a whitewash. Won't happen of course. They'll play most weeks.

Recruiting Byrnes and Rodan is a similar strategic approach to GWS recruiting Cornes, Brogan, McDonald and Power. It provides senior experience and hard bodies to help the young players both on and off the field. I remain to be convinced that it's a good strategy - but I'm certainly not making a decision based on one game.

We brought them in to paly roles we don't have. Small forward in Byrnes and he was fine in a team that didn't get it down there enough.

Rodan was less impressive but at least tried to get out of his shackles.

For me, it was the others who were the most disappointing - Pederson & Gillies - neither are up to it. The Pederson trade defies belief.

The difference is they were recruited to assist a group of 18 year old kids and with the expectation of limited games. They needed a big bodied Ruckman hence Bogan, both Junior and Power were there for their toughness and also as assistant playing coaches.

I can't see what Rodan would bring to our midfield and what he would be able to teach our existing players. You have either Byrnes, Davey or maybe Jetta; bit of a toss up there but considering the ages I'd go with Jetta.

No, he hasn't.

He should take Nicholson's spot. Byrnes was fine and should stay where he is.

We should go smaller in the forward line though. Selalr for Dawes. Pedersen gets a reprieve because he can back up Jamar.

Howe should go into the middle. His idol shouldn't be Robbo - it should be Ryan O'Keefe.

Clark, Dawes, Pedersen, Byrnes, Davey, and Sylvia.

That's unfair. He was reasonable for a FP in a team with 30 something Inside 50s.
