Thought a few might find this an interesting story. As i was walking away from the game today ran into James Hird walking his dog along Alexandra avenue opposite the botanical gardens. He actually asked us how we went and wanted some thoughts on the match. Found him to be really approachable and easy going which was quite refreshing and different from how he is portrayed in the media. We had a good chat for about 3-4 minutes as we walked along and he asked about Sylvia watts Clark jones and how port looked under Ken Hinkley. Also wasn't afraid to poke a bit of fun at the bombers when he said "at least you've got your bunnies next week must be a certain win for you guys". I thought it was great that someone who has been under so much scrutiny can just relax and have a bit of fun with a couple of supporters from another club on the way home from the footy.Full credit to Jim.

you're telling me that the senior coach of an AFL team that the Dee's are playing next week wasn't there to watch and analyse his next opponent?
Geeze we really are viewed as being insipid and not respected by everyone in the AFL if an opposition coach doesn't feel the need to watch his next opponent play.

I'm as disappointed as any, but I never cease to be amazed at how some people can take a light hearted thread that has nothing at all to do with the MFC and twist it in to evidence of how much the MFC suck. I am actually impressed.

I know a mid wife who has had to deal with many of footballers and celebrities.

She said James Hird was one of the best people that has came through the place, he was a delight.

He was a regular bloke and a genuinely good person, had all the time for anyone, I didn't like Hird before she told me this.

She said Sam Mitchell and Matt Newton were the opposite, both very arrogant, rude and I won't tell Mitchell's story, blokes a dirt bag.

Nasher The thread is supposed to be about James Hird being a down to earth bloke who despite all he has been through can still have a chinwag and a joke with a couple of opposition supporters on the way home from a game. Please don't turn it into yet another stupid dogfight

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
