The only way to shut them all up is win the bloody game

The MFC is slagged, slated, not rated by all in sundry. Bloody fed up like all supporters but there is only one way to shut them all up.

I'll second that notion

Don't care about them. They're just background noise.

I'd like to see us on the right side of the ledger more often though.

We need some guys to show some good old fashion mongrel. Get in there face and let them know we are not here just to make up the numbers. Im sick of us just rolling over.

There's only one club in Melbourne.Stop codding yourselves Essendon Carlscum Collywobbles Hawthorn St Kilda Richmond and North Melbourne (i don't mind Footscray so i'll leave them alone) you lot always were and always will be mere peasants and upstarts in our eyes. B)

Nah, if we win they'll say "it was only Port"

If we beat Ess the following week they'll say "Its only Ess - they always beat them and they are suffering from the effects of the drug investigation"

Who GAF what 'they' think.

The MFC's number one priority should be winning games for its loyal members who have stuck by them through thick, thin and thinner

The second priority should be to finish ahead of Brisbane and Geelong so that certain ex-players rue their decision to abandon us.

Is there a point to your post?

No-one is going to respect us until we prove our value on the field that does not necessarily mean wining, but we all hope it does result in winning. It means putting 22 FIT players prepared to play hard, to tackle hard and help out their mates, we expect honest football with what ever 22 players we put out there. How many years have we be using rebuilding as an excuse. There is no acceptable excuses for poor performance. Neeld is starting us in the right direction by getting the players fitter than they perhaps ever been. Its now up to the players to perform up to the level expected. I watched the Tigers play last night and while I am not a great tiger fan you have to like their hardness at the ball, if they could only kick straight they would be a pretty good team. I would to see Melbourne at least reach that level in the next year or so before they go beyond it to try to win a long over due flag. If we loose, i hope its only by a finger nail and not through the lack of trying.

We are going to have to put in a season chock-full of 4 qtr efforts.

But that is just for me to be happy.

WGAF about what McFarlane, Robinson, and the rest of the herd think?

Respect needs to be gained not given, we as a club have done nothing to gain on field respect for a number of years.

We don't even need to win to start regaining respect but that would be a by product, as I was told when younger " how do you expect to be respected by others when you don't even respect yourself ?"

This would be a good place to start.

T-34, I agree that respect needs to be earned, but I don't give a stuff if lightweights and irrelevants such as 'Venom D' ever show respect. In fact, I'd prefer he just fade away or continue to look like the vindictive person I think he is.

You are both falling into coach speak here. We do need to win, no win no respect. It's really that simple, we need to win and we need to move up the ladder.

Agree.

Rebuilding does not excuse a lack of effort.

STOP SAYING WE DO NOT NEED TO WIN TO GAIN RESPECT.

WE DO NEED TO WIN.

HONOURABLE LOSSES ARE JUST THAT.

THE OTHER TEAM WIN.

THE MFC HAS BECOME SECOND RATE BECAUSE WE COLLECTIVELY DO NOT DEMAND ENOUGH. ALL OF US.

GET IT IN YOUR HEAD. WINNING.

Collingwood are aiming at 80,000 members in 2013.

Consistently up there. Neeld was there in 2010 thankfully.

I hate honourable losses when people pat you on the back and say sorry.

Those of you at the 87 Prelim know what i mean.

We must expect that our players can win when they cross the white line.

I'm a subscriber to honourable losses to quality teams, but there will be no honour in losing to Port in this critical game.

WYL old enough to have witnessed the last 50years live.Nothing was so soul destroying as '87.But nothing was as joyous as that year also.

Waited 23 years just for a finals gig.Got on a roll and really believed the drought was about over.26 years later still waiting!I Oh well I suppose there's always next year

87 was great, but it wasn't good enough.

And those fcuking Hawks did it again in 88

Teams like Hawthorn & Carlton....They do not accept honourable losses. Yes they happen, but these clubs learn from them.

The MFC since Norm left has got to the point where we use honourable losses as the benchmark.

To really climb the ladder we must break this habit.

I will say it again, with all due respect, that the journey to regaining respect does not require us to win every game, it does require us to play like we want to win every week but when we finally realise that is what is required week in week out we will be winning more often than losing anyway.

I do not accept losing,I do demand a winning mentality but I'm also realistic enough to know that this type of culture takes longer than a preseason to grow.

This season I demand that we play every game like it's our last and win, lose or draw we never give it up or not go 100% this is what grows respect amongst your peers, and that is what counts, not to be respected by morally bankrupt morons like Denham,Wilson etc.

If we can do that this year we will finish above everyone we should and be competitive against everyone else, I expect a finish about 12th with 8-10 wins and set us up for a huge leap forward in the seasons after.

Surely if we could flick on the win switch we would already have done so, but I truly feel our day is coming and is not as far away as some may think.

i am not saying we must win 25 games a year.

But i cannot be satisfied with the honourable loss.

It is a main reason why the club has pulled no silverware in 49 years.

Night GF '87.

Followed and preceded by a rather large drought.

the night GF's of 87 & 89 were a nice consolation. But they are only small potatoes in the scheme of things.

And others celebrate their decision to join us...
