Is Brock McLean one of the most respected and popular players in the AFL?

Brock Mclean is a good player, and it is going to hurt watching him play well for Carlton. But he had to go, for MFC to set a new enviroment for the youth.

Youth? Brock isn't exactly old.

He was a bad loss for us, we got decent value considering he wanted to leave. I just hope Gysberts was worth it.

I thought tonight's game was an appalling contest between a good ordinary team and a dreadful one. You simply can't judge a player's capabilities on this one game because, after quarter time it was played at pedestrian pace and Carlton was never under much pressure. The game would have suited Brock down to a tee.

Twelve months ago I was one of his biggest fans and would have placed him right up there as one of our best players. He wasn't anywhere near 100% fit in 2009 but still, on what he showed us last year, I was quite frankly relieved when he put up his hand to go and Melbourne readily accepted draft pick # 11. He needed a change from us and we needed a change from him. You can call it a falling out of love if you like but I still have no regrets after watching him play tonight.

Very well put.

I kept thinking to myself "maybe against the Tiges, but just wait til you play the cats..."

and we got pick 11 for him! PICK 11!!!

Maybe a fair trade, but how often does that happen?

We got better for Brock than Sydney got for Jolly!!

there is also the fact that his papier-mache body is likely to give out during the course of any given match and he will be in the stands for a month or two, coming back all hobbly and broken down

I wonder how many consecutive rounds he will get through at Carlton

good riddance

I cannot believe my eyes with some of you 'I still love him' ha! what for? Underperforming for us as a pick 3 or for bailing on us (despite saying he never would) when the going got tough?

I'd take Pick 11 again right now.

So would I, only thing is i would have used it on a tall, like Talia. Hopefully I will be proved wrong in time and Jordan will become a star for us.

On Brock, I thought he played well as we know he can, but it is a long season and he has had a few major injuries, we will see at the end of the season.

On Richmond, they were pathetic and gave carlton no contest at all.

How can anyone be respected that walks away from a club that he himself touted himself to be a future captain!

What will he do if/when it turns to crap at the blues? walk away? Probably.

Good Player - Certainly- a few years ago

Loyalty - he couldn't spell it

Good luck to him with the blues, he wasn't going to win a flag with us, he certainly won't with that lot. I'd beat Richmond, I'm loving the hysteria and flag talk from the blues fans today.

In the end the dees will probably benefit from his trade, but i've lost a fair bit of respect for the man.

Brock certainly had a good game last night. This does not surprise me at all.

Remember what we know about this traitor.

When Brock played for Melbourne, when fit he always played well in the big games (when not tagged.) He was a big game player............ In this instance a big game player with something to prove.

In recent years Brock always seemed to perform well against poor teams, in a winning side. Lets face it Richmond are terrible, perhaps worse than Melbourne 2008. However, when up against good teams Brock was caught for pace and looked very second rate.

There is no question that Brock will be a far better player as an in and under specialist in an elite mid-field...... in the Diesel Williams bread. 20 handballs suggests to me he played his role perfectly last night, he certainly enjoyed having a dominate ruckmen and no tag. I think Brock is a very good pick up for Carlton. I also think pick 11 was a very good trade for us considering we have a basket full of in and under midfielders.

I hated watching him play well last night and hated him singing the song even more. I would love to smash Carlton round 9 more than I would love to win Queens BDay this year.

He did make the wrong decision, but we got some good out of it too. We can still like Brock and also get stuck into the Hawks at the same time. The only way he can know if he made the right decision is if he plays in a Carlton Premiership.

Gee didn't he play well- we will miss him around the young ones- such as Scully,Trengove.

i have been told by someone who knew him or someone who did that brock was a sook.

he wanted everything his way.

he hated going to casey and the players had enough.

this then became an issue and thats why brock had wanted to leave the club.

i am not a 100% sure but that is what i heard

I guess the contribution a few lazy thousand out of his own pocket to the debt demolition would not mean much these days....

With you there, geebus he gave was it $10k of his own to the club for Debt Demolition... I think that say's enough.

Never said he was old?

But he (Brock) had to go, for MFC to set a new enviroment for the youth.

I would understand if you said he was too slow, or heartless or whatever, I would disagree with you. But 24 year old players (only just turned) don't 'need' to be moved on to make way for youth.

lol great bump.

Nice punch to the groin for me.

This is one decision with which I agree with the match committee. Brock just did not fit into our long run success plans. Too slow, and not an accurate enough kick. I other words, not skilled enough.

I think in the long run it will be a wise decision

PS I bet we win a premiership before Carlton do. WHY? Their list is not as skilled as ours, and they have major cultural problems built into their club (along with Collingwood). The closest the AFL has to a Rugby League club, and they seem not at all interested in fixing it. It will cost them dearly in the end.

It already cost them Fevola, which has drastically reduced their chances of winning a flag

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
