Two main supporter forums - Why?

Featured Replies

Posted

One thing I've never understood from the get go is why there are two main supporter forums (Land and Ology) and this supposed (and wee bit juvenile) rivalry between them (BF board I group separately as it is part of a larger AFL forum).

1) It's not like we have the largest supporter base. Splitting us up seems a pointless exercise that results in less diversity of opinion and contribution.

2) Several posters seem to post on both sites anyhow.

3) Is Land really that horrible that there is this apparent need for a second forum?

When Oology went down I thought finally we might be able to have the one main supporter forum, but I see it's back again. Perhaps there is some greater, logical reason/history behind this?

Note: Not trying to [censored]-stir, more genuinely curious.

Personally, I can't stand 'ology.

More likely the heavy handed mods here drive people away.

Ology has been around for years, and some are more comfortable expressing their opinion without the risk of a ban.

I like visiting here, but more often than not i choose not to post as 1particular mod can carry on like he thinks he is the supreme being.

Also, ology has had enough of its mini wars, involving the same 2 or 3 people. Why come here and repeat the process?

Im hoping that the new blood, including the Land boys, will refresh the place, and bring it back to footy, instead of boring yachting and music threads..

'Ology is like walking into an old deserted town. The doors swing open..tumbleweed rolls down the dirty street.

The few locals who still live there just attack anyone who speaks..regardless of the content.

Quite humorous really, but it does get boring rather quickly.

The Booze has gone off and the women are nowhere to be seen.

2 Stars. :)

Expressing your opinion and personally berating or villifying anybody who has the temerity to disagree will get you banned...can't see the problem in that....one reason why there are 2 board, lack of control on 'Ology

Gladly post on both, am glad we have two.

Different opinions and personalities on both, separating them is a bonus as long term bickering would destroy the one site, at least having 2 sites dilutes this again.

'Ology used to be a fantastic forum, has gone backwards in the last few years due to new members not being able to join, but hopefully, thanks to the great work of a few, it will grow again and have some of the knowledgable conversations that they have had in the past.

As for the rivalry, it says more about the posters that encourage it and put down the other site than it does the sites.

Yes, Rhino puts a wet blanket on any candle he sees...

People like different things and they will get different experiences on both sites.

I find Land more than enough for me with the number of people to 'like', disagree with, argue with, and roll my eyes at.

And a couple of personalities over there can stay over there - that's as much criticism of Ology as I have.

So keep it around - it keeps this place what it is.

It is just the Judean People's Front vs. the People's Front of Judea - splitters.

But 'land does have the ignore button, blessit!

"Where are the Judean People's Front?"

"He's over there!" :)

Who cares?? I post on both. No issue with either Slightly different tone on each. Many of the same nutcases though.....

Thats not quite right 'S

I was warned, with great carry on, when i stated to another ex ology poster that we would not last long on here, with the way it is moderated

Over the top, and hysterical, I thought.

I quite like it here, as the footy talk eats ology alive, as there are only a handful of really good posters who regularly contribute over there. The training reports by Nick however, are great, and well worth a read.

Pay a visit to the general board once it is in full swing again, to remind yourself why you like it more here.

In answer to the opening posters question....alternatives, it's healthy for Dees supporters to have alternatives. Many find both good value. And depending on the topic at hand, there can be decent in-depth discussion and/or debate on both.

Well, I've found that anyway in the past with 'ology and certainly here. Additions to the gene pool at 'ology will have an influence I'm sure, at least activity wise, soon enough.

edit:

Some subsequent posts have been removed, keep it clean.

Personally i like reading ology, i think only a whiner would dislike another Demon forum.

The only issue I have is with ology is the non addition of new members I can almost predict what each member is going to post on any given subject and who will start to punch on with who.

I have not been near it for 3 years nutbean.

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
