2012 Draft Top 10: Nearest the pin comp.

Featured Replies

I've heard a little whisper:

1 Whitfield

2 Menzel

3 Plowman

4 Toumpas

5 O'Rourke

6 Macrae

7 Grundy

8 Wines

9 Vlastuin

10 Daniher

Call me stupid, but I've heard GWS love Menzel and Plowman.

If the latest rumours are true and Toumpas is available at 4 it could go down as one of the sweetest drafts in history.

How to transform your club in one off-season. Viney, Toumpas, Hogan, Barry, Dawes and Pedersen would be an amazing outcome.

I wonder if we'll get Whitfield? I know it sounds crazy, but what if GWS want grundy, plowman and one of menzel/o'rouke. They might well identify that they have a need for types of talent they don't have yet and they picked a heap of mids first time round didn't they?

Yes it's crazy. They'll take Whitfield for sure, regardless of type he's the best available player in the draft, you don't bye pass that sort of talent.

Reading that article about Stringer was interesting....his leg break was shocking.

Apparently he still runs with a pronounced gait.

In time, I imagine that would put pressure on hips, knees and ankles.

Anyone watched him play? Is he good?

*Just youtubed him - big lad with lovely hands.

This is my tip for the top 10 in the 2012 AFL National Draft. I think that GWS have more than enough midfielders and they will take Grundy to help their ruck stocks and Plowman to help their embattled defence. Leaving the Demons to swoop on Toumpas.

1) Whitfield (GWS Giants)

2) Grundy (GWS Giants)

3) Plowman (GWS Giants)

4) Toumpas (Melbourne Demons)

5) O'Rourke (Western Bulldogs)

6) Stringer (Western Bulldogs)

7) Wines (Port Adelaide Power)

8) Macrae (Brisbane Lions)

9) Menzel (Richmond Tigers)

10) Daniher (Essendon Bombers)

Either way, I'll be happy with the Demons getting either Toumpas, Wines or O'Rourke with our number 4 pick.

I think that this is the only post that is close to being on the money. The only change that might occur is the the Bulldogs will probably snare Wines!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
