Actually, a very composed and tough looking side, with lots of talent.

you forgot to add Byrnes as the waterboy.... cos apparently we didn't get him to play footy

B: Nicholson McDonald Frawley

HB: Watts Pederson Garland

C: Trengove Jones Ray

HF: Howe Dawes Sylvia

FF: Blease Clarke Byrnes

R: Jamar Grimes Viney

Int: Dunn Wines McKenzie Taggert

I'm running with Pederson and Ray arrvijng sometime this week.

The first thing you notice is how much bigger and more imposing the side will look. This is not a team that will be pushed aside easily.

All that's lacking is a little line-breaking and forward crumbing class. Hopefully Barry can show something here and maybe we can even unearth something in the draft.

Davey, Tapscott, Jetta, Bail, Bennel, Pettered.

Davey, Tapscott, Jetta, Bail, Bennel, Pettered.

Davey - past it

Tapscott - Hold high hopes but he's definitely not a speedster

Jetta - Not quick, not a natural goalkicker

Bail - Battler

Petterd - Probable delisting

Bennell - Bennell

We just have so many players that haven't developed.

Nicholson has pace but no class. Strauss is a better footballer.

Davey will have a comeback year. Has been a super classy player.

It does look like a good team, but I think your Backline is far too tall, even though Garland can play small I don't see Frawley, TMac, Watts, Garland and Pedersen all in the backline at once, its a bit top heavy, plus I think Pedersen would far more likely be playing forward. Here;s my suggestion.

Assuming we get the wishlist in Pedersen and Ray (which is unfortunately looking increasingly unlikely)

HB- Watts - T MacDonald- Ray

C- Blease - Jones - Sylvia

HF- Howe - Dawes - Tapscott

FF- Pedersen - Clark - Byrnes

FOL- Jamar - Trengove - Grimes

int- Viney - Wines - Mckensie - Davey (If he can rotate between HBF and Small Forward)

(I want Davey in that team and in form I think he will be, also I want Wines and Viney to play round one but it is difficult to get them all in, Taggert will also get his chance so there will be a bit of competition for midfield spots this year)

It's bloody CLARK not ClarkE!!!

but at least there ain't a Maloney!

I know the premise of the OP is best 22 but surely we can't select a side with only an aging, slowing and increasingly injury prone Russian as the sole ruckman, with occasional chop outs from Dawes or Clark? What happens when he goes down?

I assume you mean Tom Mcdonald and not Joel M'a'cdonald?

Taggert in the forward pocket of our best 22 is definitely 'a roughie'. Also, no Sylvia but Morton, Dunn and two first years get a gig ahead of him?

I'll be watching the game with only one eye open if Dunn, Morton and Bartram are on the team sheet.

The one inclusion I am enjoying is Wines, assume we have somebody from the recruiting department on this board, so it is a given we are going to get him.....Pedersen is not a given now either once the Roos offloaded McIntosh

Excited that we finally have some tall timber down in the forward line.

Bold = Could easily play in the 22

Underlined: If fit, is in 22

Gysberts wasn't even going to be bold, and Morton wouldnt even be in the Emergency list.

Happy

Sylvia? No nicho?

No love for Magner? Whilst this isnt looking ANYTHING like a finals team let alone a premiership team, its good to see some "depth" with form and injury dictating who plays out of Magner, Nicholson, Dunn, Jetta, Sellar, Pederson, Macdonald

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
