2012 Player Review - # 40 Mark Jamar

Mark had a consistent first half to the year, obviously playing in the ruck in the AFL side. Unfortunately, just after the mid-season break, Mark sustained a calf injury, and then got a recurrence of that, so was only really able to play two full games in the second half of the season. Mark’s ruck skills and ruck ability are outstanding - he’s one of the highly regarded ruckmen in the competition, and constantly gives our midfielders first look at the footy. His work with other young ruckmen in Spencer and Fitzpatrick this year has been great. He’s displayed great leadership, passing on knowledge and working with these guys. I guess for Mark, he just needs to continue to look at how he can stay involved in the game outside of stoppages. Former AA that has had a few injuries but has failed to capture anything near the AA form. Will the new ruck rule kill his chances of recapturing AA form?

Will he benefit from Beemer going? Will he get more than 4 kicks a game or 2 marks?

Is he over-rated? Me thinks he is and needs a few more strings to his bow. But after 8/9 seasons it is highly doubtful he can increase his fitness, mobility or damage around the fwd line.

Hugely overrated and hasn't worked nearly hard enough around the ground in the past two seasons.

1 goal in 14 matches would be a poor outcome for a defender, let alone a midfielder. 2 marks and 8 disposals a game is similarly atrocious.

I wish he would just thump the ball forward instead of dabbing the ball at his feet and hoping that one of his midfielders is in the vicinity.

I would keep Martin and Spencer over Jamar every day of the week.

Easily the best ruckman on our list and has actually put together a season of great football - unlike the rest of the potential ruckmen on our list.

With a decent midfield his value increases exponentially.

Dominant tap ruckman don't fall out of the sky so I value his presence greatly and so do many others.

Yes, will be very interesting to see the synergy of a fit Jamar and an 'able' midfield
