Wellingham/Dawes super trade (scuppered)

Featured Replies

I agree with Clint, I heard GW also and all he said was melbourne were interested in CD and SW. Pick 4 was not mentioned.

Pick 4 does seem overs but if you look at it this way its' not so bad. Note the use of 4 to land SW and CD is said to be based on the proviso of not needing pick 3 for JV.

Currently we have 4 picks in the first 26, using pick 4 to get SW and CD would mean a net gain of

Pick 3 - 3rd best 18 y/o

Pick 4 - Chris Dawes and Sharrod Wellingham

Pick 14 - 14th best 18 y/o

Pick 26 - Jack Viney

This gives us at least 3 players that are ready to improve our team from round 1 next year. Plus 2 more 18 y/os in the first 14 picked. Plus at least Shannon Byrnes as a FA. It might seem like a quick fix but in reality it's not. CD and SW are both < 25 and first 18 in one of the best teams in the league. Our chances of landing a true superstar with pick 4 is remote to moderate at best.

I find it hard to believe that Wellingham is going anywhere but the WCE.

So the whole idea is crap.

I may go insane with a three week trade period.

The media has to come up with stories for three weeks instead of one.

So we get a constant stream on Remors most of which are the result of someone's imagination.

God I hope the next few weeks goes fast.

By the way, Jack Martin just looks like another skinny kid to me. Don't we have enough of those already?

Collingwood are good at their game.

We must play ours.

I think only Dawes will move across.

Maybe Martin and 26 for Dawes and pies 2nd round

Then again who knows its all guesswork unless you're mfc

Its official. Thats what we have put up for those two players. I think its crazy overs, why not pick 13 and a player?

Geoff Walsh from Collingwood FC has confirmed that Melbourne have put pick 4 up to secure Dawes and Wellingham

Link to come

It's not official at all unless Melbourne come out and state it. This rubbish is ruining my breakfast.

From the AFL Trade Winds:

Cold water has also been poured on another proposed trade that would see Collingwood premiership pair Sharrod Wellingham and Chris Dawes join Melbourne in return for pick No.4 in the NAB AFL National Draft.

Phew

I would consider pick 13 for both, although am not really keen on either.

Realistically we could have Carey and Lockett in our forward line and it would make no difference to our success until we start getting more than 30 inside 50s a game. Dawes certainly is not the missing link.

Tim Harrington says he is confident picks 3 and 13 will get Dawes, Wellingham and Rounds.

I hope that is some kind of sick joke demonchris

Chris 8, sometime Magpie troll?

why do i have a sick feeling in the guts we are gunna [censored] up our list again.. We MUST keep pick 3 and 4!! 13 should be used for caddy or Dawes. Steer clear away from Wellingham ffs!

Pick 4 is a Judd like player, thats what makes it terrible

Yes Morton, gonna be scared to draft for ever? no

I'd say the chances of us doing the deal with wellingham/dawes for pick 4 is highly unlikely now if we have traded pick 3 for pick 2 in the mini-draft for hogan (don't think this is comfirmed yet). This is fine by me as we can still get dawes with a lower pick and possibly still get pedersen with a trade. Would completely set up our fwd line :)

it was reported on the trade week radio... it is second hand information. But its the apparent source.

Dawes alone is not worth 13. If that were to happen at some stage we'd have to recieve a late pick as well - we picked up Clark with 12 ffs, Dawes isn't anywhere near the player Clark has been.

we'd be amazingly lucky to snare a "Judd like player" at no.4

we'll get a top 22 player, only 50% chance of getting a top 6 player if you look at past drafts

Maybe not "Judd" but he went at what 3? Pendles at 3 or 4? Buddy at 5? star players are available in the top 5

Dawes and pick18 for Stef Martin and pick13?

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
