Hard to imagine a bigger put down than the appointment of Cameron at GWS. Clearly, Williams was shown the door.

FWIW, imo they got it right; Williams fluked the Port flag, then screwed the club $s wise to the point of oblivion. Walked out with full payout into GWS job. God help the tiges.

Gotta say, if Hinkley gets the port job, god help them; his repute from SW Vic is that of a nutter. Might well finish the club.

How many minor premierships did they win before getting a flag? Hardly a fluke, especially against that lions side

And I've only heard good things about Hinkley, so you aren't really hitting the mark for me I must admit...

Just remind me how you fluke a premiership? I'd be happy if Melb fluked a top-eight spot! Has the runs on the board. Wouldn't be the first person to disagree with the eccentric Sheedy.

Williams wife and children hated West Sydney, wished to return to Melbourne.

Mono, I have non-Dee supporter friends who were saying the same thing about Bailey in '07.

lol fluking minor premierships and and a flag whilst dealing with some pretty important injuries to the side is a lot a flukin'.

I'm surprised he lasted 10 minutes under Sheedy, thought he had more sense than that.

Bluey I believe that is true.

However I think the main reason is he was told he would not get the Main job when Sheedy left.

I believe after the last GWS Game he left the ground without even going into the rooms. Walk from the field to his car and drove away.

Me thinks he was more than a little [censored] off!

Williams was right to be [censored] as I imagine he took the role after being informed he would take over after 1 year. When Sheedy got the extension he was out of there.

He's better off in Melbourne than that hole.

As for the flag, it was a few years coming and then he got a side into the GF that shouldn't have been there. Smart but whether still good enough for the main job who knows.

He is known to be a below average people-manager, and too many clubs believe this to be essential in modern coaching. For mine, he is a premiership coach and I remember the days of Tredrea, Cornes x2, Francou, Burgoyne x2. There are some flaky footballers in that list and he was able to harness their best, mould them into a team and beat the Lions often during thier 3 year reign.

He seems to be more of an old fashioned ranter like Eade but in some way he gets results out of people. It appears that GWS young players developed quicker than the Gold Coast boys and this is due almost entirely to him.. But his greatest strength - even admitted by people who despise him - is his development of younger players, new draftees, in a teaching role. This is a great move from Williams and the Tiges will benefit from his appointment.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025.
