WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES

If need thinks dawes is our best bang for buck, then sure.

Also, i think if eddy can have any effect on how his players trades work out, then he will try to avoid us from benefiting.

I just don't rate the guy. Yes he fits in the age bracket we like, but he's not overly large by today's standards, he isn't mobile and his record is mediocre at best. I much prefer the mooted Butcher trade or making a move on Gumbleton (I'm sure I've mentioned this before).

Butcher is certainly a better prospect, much more exciting.

I'd take Dawes over any of the previous names I've heard mentioned (i.e. the likes of Rodan, Byrnes, Knights etc.).

Would be a good get, perfect for what we're trying to create up forward.

Completely disagree that Martin is a better player.

THIS FROM KDA

But Cloke at least had some talent to begin with, he was always going to come good at some stage.

Dawes on the other hand, different story for the big lumbering spud.

I get the feeling that any argument will not change your mind about Dawes so I won't pursue one.

Have a nice day.

Maybe this will change KingDingAling's mind and as much as I hate to pander to a stereotype Dawes does have Brighton Grammar/Sandringham in his pedigree...sounds like a natural for us.

Unbelievable hatred towards Dawes on this thread, and simultaneous unfounded comparisons with Martin, where Martin comes out on top.

There simply isn't any basis for claiming Martin is better than Dawes. I'm sorry to all Martin fans, but he's achieved very, very little in his career so far, and Dawes has done more.

If the price is right, he should definitely be on our radar, as he'll help Clark immensely and that helps the team.

Spot on.

The one bright light of the year was watching Dawes stuff up for The pies.

I watched most of the games Dawes played in and I was astounded how poor he was, just not up to AFL standard.

I can't think of a worse player currently playing in the AFL.

I would have thought Dawes would be a required player at Collingwood. The feeding frenzy on availability of Tippett which Collingwood has denied interest in, is no doubt related. I doubt very much they'd say goodbye to Dawes (re-signed him last year)now that they have Lynch. Three talls.

A year is a long time isn't it?

Last year lots wanted us to sign him up, or used his late development / on field results in 2011 to support the 'jack watts is going to be good' theory.

A year later he's a spud?!

Fwiw I do agree that he's a spud, but it's just funny how quickly he's gone from flavor of the month to a whipping boy.

I watched Dawes in the first final and was surprised by his agility and attack on the ball, I think he might be OK, would certainly never get the best backman if Clark plays so worth a shot, I had a lot of time for Stef but in the cool clear light, maybe he's not that good

He never got the best backman this year and barely got a kick.

As mentioned earlier Butcher and even Gumby would be far better options, especially Butcher.

Neeld and Brown would have detailed knowledge of Dawes's strengths and weaknesses, and what he can bring to the club. If they sign off on it, good enough for me.

Butcher is completely untried on the big stage, comes from a club which is travelling as badly as we are (worse?), and is injury prone. Not saying he's not worth looking at, but you wouldn't have thought he'd be the first considered if we're trying to turn the ship around.

Im not sufficiently in any one camp or the other, but I agree.

if they see something.. Ill back them ( for now )

Maybe the see a great step ladder for Howe! Pretty solid launching pad

Pies fans on BF uncertain whether Dawes or Simon Buckley is their biggest spud.

Let's get him!

I'm not sure about Dawes I didn't want him when we talked about him last time and I'm not sure if I want him now.

I've seen him play some ordinary football this year but from time to time I've seen him do something good which indicates he can play. He's got a few goals by being left by himself in the goal square where the ball has fallen in to his hands and I'm not sure if that's luck or smart play. Sometimes he looks as if he's been given a rocket and he really puts in other times he looks as if he's coasting.

I'm not convinced he has very good self belief. In the right environment I think he could flourish very well.

It's simple!!! We offer 3rd round pick for Dawes and if Collingwood say no, good luck trying to get Tippett.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
