FAREWELL BRENT MOLONEY

Featured Replies

I'm starting to understand the underlying sentiment that suggests no compos at all. They go,they go. They come, they come. End of story.

Might be a lot cleaner

Agree wholeheartedly if the club chooses not to match the offer or doesn't require the player anymore they should not receive compensation it's ridiculous.

You need compensation.

We lost a player from a form of FA and the compo netted us a FF, ND20 and a classy 18 year winger.

Imagine if we didn't get compo for HWFUA?

Good luck Beamer, good luck getting a game amoungst the likes of Black, Rockliff, Rich & Redden

Next season to help combat this clubs holding off on signing free agents to help their compensation, there's an easy solution.

Next year make it that you can't trade for a free agent (restricted), unless the origonal club has matched the offer and that you can't trade an unrestricted free agent at all. Will do away with all this ducks and drakes shenanigans

How about we stick to apples and apples. Re FA

The other situation was oranges... Actually over-ripe bananas !! .

I think with UFA.. Nothing.

With RFA ..well up to clubs to sort it out, do a trade if suits, otherwise we just have this mess verging on a farce.

RE the compensation system.

I believe that the FA agency compo system is just a transition measure and will be scrapped by next season. It was just to get supporters used to the whole idea. First of all, it goes completely against what free agency is about (no other FA system that I know of has this kind of measure).

It also has the potential to create monumental problems for the AFL.

Firstly, as has been mentioned, clubs do not want to recruit any FAs who might cost them a lucrative compensation pick (and the clubs don't know what it is until far too late). This goes against the whole point of the system - to encourage player movement and freedom.

Secondly it is unfair on clubs that are below wherever the AFL arbitrarily inserts the pick; clubs that have done nothing to deserve being shunted down the draft order.

Hypothetically, if Buddy has a falling out with Clarko in 2013 (not beyond the realm of possibility given their personalities) and decides to leave the Hawks after next year (and the Hawks don't get many or any FAs back to right the ledger) then you would have a hard time arguing that he is not worth at least a top five or even top three draft pick (he would be getting a huge contract wherever he goes).

Say there is a massive talent drop off after those first 5 picks. - it's often the case that a draft is relatively top heavy.

What happens to the team that originally had pick 5? Do they just get shafted to pick 6 despite having done nothing wrong? Should the AFL take the talent likely to be available with the comp. picks into account when giving them out?

Not such an issue when a comp pick is in the teens or later, but if a club gets shunted down the draft order in the top 5 or 10... well there would be hell to pay.

It's unworkable and creates too many possibilities for perceptions of bias and conflicts of interest.

Beamer's Manager Bruce Kaider is in partnership with Andrew Bogut which probably explains his yankee wannabe show me the money style of management.

One newspaper article described Kaider as a leading player agent. Google revealed a small and A grader free stable.

I hope someone makes an argument for Melbourne to get better compensation for Moloney than St Kilda gets for Goddard.

Moloney has won a BNF Goddard hasn't.

And yet clubs fought over Goddard, now to pay him squillions, he nearly Won a GF off his own boot, runs nearly all day and in the main makes good footy decisions.

And then we have Brent !

A club with $1.8 million extra cap pouncing on a 20 year old is unique and not comparable to 29 year olds leaving clubs because they are not required or deemed not worth the cost.

Lions have said they will move on Beamer if they miss out on Tippett. Beamer might be at the Lions very soon.

Well done Nostradamus.

If it is indeed fact that Moloney was told to drop his weight to gain speed, and he basically refused. I am glad he is gone, his attitude stinks.

True to form, drawn a conclusion in the absence of fact. Might have to find another doll to stick pins into. Good luck.

Well that furphy wont wing it.

I have seen the word hypothetically does that mean Rassilon is back as cfe?

According to the "Bummers" on SEN this morning.

Moloney tarted himself around the clubs at the end of last year hoping to be picked up.

Disappointedly no-one wanted him.

He obviously only targeted Victorian clubs.

Good Bye and Good Riddance

Good Riddance Moloney. I'm Glad Neeld didn't gift the bloke games just because he won a b&f and finished top 5 in The brownlow last year.

And what about all the BS abut going to a premiership contender?? Just prooves his ego was bruised and thinks he is bigger than the club itself!

Why don't you learn to quit the sarcasm?

I'm happy for him - it was sad to see him spending all his time watching his opponent this year instead of winning the ball - at stoppages he's as good as anyone in the AFL. Lions midfield is getting pretty strong again - Beamer will buy them a couple of years to get the young guys strong enough to go through there.

sad day for me, always loved the Beamer. Still don't know what went wrong in 2012.

Didn't want to buy in.

Why don't you learn to quit the sarcasm?

????? Only if you quit what you seem to be taking!

Good luck Beamer, maybe a champion midfielder in Vossy will know how to play you.

We picked up Shannon [censored] Byrnes!!!!!!

We're going places

I won't engage with you, RR.

Your comments are often nasty and belittling.

If you think you know more than others, say so in a non-judgemental way, rather than responding with snide remarks.

Over and out.

You already have Cwusader Wabbit.

I have already questioned the basis of baseless attack. You could not stump up an explanation. And snide!! Thats your territory Tulip.

Clearly over and out of your depth.

Yes, but what is happening is that clubs are not signing up players as it affects their FA comp. St Kilda in particular.

I really don't think 25 picks (max) dispersed throughout the draft is the end of the world.

It would be fine.

I agree.

If Rivers and Moloney were to get monster contracts, the cumulative compo could feasibly see us net pick 5, and I doubt any of the clubs directly after us in the draft would be too pleased by that.

I would be on cloud 9, however.

Beamer had a great year in 2011, but that was largely due to our midfield structure of Jamar giving him almost exclusive rights to his ruck work.

Need has clearly come in and said that won't be happening round here anymore, and his game has suffered.

We all saw what happened in games against tough opposition when the Moloney-Jamar combo was negated. This is another step forward for the club.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
