We've heard a little bit about recruiting mature age prospects from the various State Leagues and I'm sure there will be more discussion in the weeks and months to come. The Giants have been given a big leg up by the AFL as part of the concessions made available to them to use the availability of State League players to improve their own list - Gun goalkicker Lee set for second AFL chance.

The Giants have the option to pre-list up to 10 players who have previously been on an AFL list or nominated for the draft and then on-trade them in the same manner that Collingwood snared Marty Clarke and Jamie Elliott last year.

It will be interesting if clubs avail themselves of this option given it requires an element of trust and GWS is involved.

With Melbourne on the lookout for some experienced State League talent to augment its midfield, there's a forgotten man named Ian Richardson playing for WAFL side Claremont who could become the next Ian Callinan.

- Fremantle swapped pick 39 for 44 to get Tendai Mzungu.

- Richmond swapped pick 14 for 15 to get Steven Morris.

- St Kilda swapped pick 20 for 25 to get Ahmed Saad and Terry Milera.

Huge opportunities to get pre-listed guys without having to gamble in the draft.

It's as easy as identifying said talent and getting him/them on-traded for as little as swapping draft picks.

I really hope this year MFC finally gets active.

GWS only have 1 prelisted player left as far as i know, so it will be valued or they may use it for themselves

Saad was a big miss in my opinion. Proven small forward which we are still crying out for and would have cost next to nothing. Any other smalls floating around in the vfl this season?

Minchington!!! He's a rookie with the Saints, played pretty well in the VFL and will never stop working and trying to improve. He's not in the top tier yet, but I would back him to get there.

Tim Mohr from Casey Scorpions was one. They kept him and put him on their senior list. Similarly, Giles and Clifton, I think.

Thought I heard somewhere it was 10 per year but it appears to be 10 for 2011/2012...

I guess that means it's a missed boat by the club, would more than likely have to pay serious overs to get their last pre-listed selection (if true).

Adelaide got Luke Brown with this during their MD escapades, Freo got Lee Spurr I believe so that takes it to at least 6 or so, Collingwood got Marty Clarke also.

Milera?

Saad?

Mohr

Clifton

Brown

Spurr

Clarke

Giles

Morris

is 9

I thought Mzungu was a year earlier not just this year or was he still a prelist?

The Saints never stop producing small forwards, so is he still rookied with them at the moment or was that in the past?

Just finished his first year of Rookiedom. However, I'm pretty sure the Rookie rules were changed a couple of years ago to allow them to be traded up to a spot on another club's main list.

Ian Richardson looks OK. Maybe he is just what Casey needs to smash Port Melbourne in next year's VFL Grand Final and install that winning culture that Neeld is seeking!

I believe after being delisted he was heard to say "I don't think I'm in Kansas anymore".

Sorry Kangas ... with Trengove being in doubt with stress fracture, another quality mid is needed ...Ben Ross is the best mature age mid outside the AFL.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
