I read the quote below from Mark Neeld and I just wonder why Cook was selected as an emergency against Richmond in Rd 15 if clearly he is "not ready to go". Not trying to be critical but it does seem an odd statement now. Perhaps there was simply nobody left worthy of even being named emergency that round due to injuries ?

“We think that Lucas is going reasonably well at VFL level, but he hasn’t played yet enough footy to really warrant AFL selection. It’s not the correct thing to do by Lucas to put him into the side just yet, because he’s not ready to go.”

No one else left perhaps that week?

Is there ANY DANGER AT ALL we can pick players in this next draft who are ready to go FROM DAY 1???

We don't have time for %$&%ing bean pole project players this year, we need a quick fix and we need it right now otherwise we might as well shut the bloody door now.

This is just another frustration that is pi$$ing a lot of people off.

Another possibility is that coaches sometimes use that sort of thing as a tactic to fire up certain players. A player on the fringe might see their name listed in the emergencies, come to the conclusion that they are close to a senior game and then push that little bit harder on the track and in the VFL. Maybe Neeld thought that might spur Cook on a bit.

You'd be even more confused if you've seen much of Cook playing at Casey.

I understand the frustration but people will also be unhappy if we dont take the best long term option as we are not going to play in premierships and win the by taking short cuts along the way, it just doesnt happpen

Scully, Trengove, Tynan to name a few.

I do remember during the Daniher era he was drafting players in the hope they could come in

and be a player straight away searching for that elusive premiership. Look where that got us.

I am also unhappy that we didn't pick up Darling but at least we are going after players with

the potential to be very good players rather than someone who can come in and fill a hole for us.

I guess just a lack of players at the selection table for Cook's position and he was a last resort.

I don't think he'd have been the first player in the first 22 to not be fit enough for AFL level.

Our best long term option is SURVIVAL right now. We are 10 billion miles away from willing a premership, possible more. I would settle for simply winning a game against a side that isn't a bunch of bloody 15 year olds right now. If we keep winning <5 games a year we will not survive 10 years. As I said in my previous post we need a quick fix and we need it now. We simply can't afford to be complete rubbish for ANOTHER 6 years. Draft players who are ready to go not boney girl armed players who MIGHT be superstars in 300 god damn years (if we're lucky and if they haven't buggered off elsewhere by then).

Sorry for my ranting but I'm as fed up as most of you guys.

We probably will do that this year, but you can't do it every year or you'll end up with a side with no talls. Have to either draft them or trade them in!

Keep saying it! How about leigh williams? Worth the risk?

worth the risk of de listing seasons end? i say yes

And just another reason to have kept "Juice"

25 games for 35 goals people not bad from a bloke who never ever got an extended run!!

Ah well what could have been! Eh

Yeah, that's exactly what this club needs - quick fixes.

FFS...

And this rubbish of survival - we've survived much worse.

Quit the baseless hysteria.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
