Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

Featured Replies

I don't see why people are upset with getting Cloke because he's not a midfielder.

To quote a burrito ad, "can't we have both?"

If we get Cloke, which midfielder are we sacrificing?

Possibly Boak because we probably can't afford both Boak and Cloke.

The price of Cloke and his baggage including his old man is a frightening prospect.

Boak, Viney and one or two midfield recruits plus Taggert and Gysberts would transform our midfield.

Cloke is a hard working CHF that runs and runs.

Even with our poor midfield, our boy Clark managed to kick goals - imagine Cloke in there....

One leading one way, one up the guts and Jurrah by himself.

Roll on 2013.

Toumpas, Viney, Caddy, Cloke, welcome to the MFC.

We've been linked with both and I'd be surprised if we couldn't get both Cloke and Boak, given how rubbish and young our list has been. We have been hearing for years about how we have been prepaying our salaries in preparation for free agency. $1.6 between Cloke and Boak shouldn't break the bank ...... but the only people who would have any idea about that are those involved with Tim Harrington.

Cloke will be announced soon as staying. Boak is a chance.

Is Deledio free agent?

If so then yes, throw at least 800k a season at him.

Brad Sewell would just be another run of the mid-fielder for us. Throwing that type of coin at him wouldn't change a thing.

Richmond

Brett Deledio Restricted

Nathan Foley Restricted

Luke McGuane Restricted

Kelvin Moore Unrestricted

Shane Tuck Unrestricted

Is Lenny Hayes more up you alley, as a midfielder then? He's having a great year, as a veteran, coming back off a reco.

WHY HAS NO1 MADE A THREAD ABOUT DELEDIO!

Cloke + Boak + 2 classy young mids with picks 3 and 12 + Viney under F-S + a great Misson-led pre-season in 2013 (Mitch Clark and others raring to go) = simply mammoth transformation of on-field performance in 2013.

Unfortunately it seems Cloke will re-sign with the Pies shortly.

Hope the club has a red hot crack at Boak.

What other mature age talls could the club look to snare (assuming Cloke stays)?

What about the midfield?

Won't somebody please think of the midfield!!!

there al too busy seduced by the shiny shiny glittering trinkets to concern themselves with anything of dull steel, like a machine... like an engine...aka midfield.

So no deledio is available.

I will ask all those people huffing and puffing about mids again. What mids are worth between 500k - 1million per season and are currently available as free-agents.

probably wont know til seasons end ...other than an early escapee or two.

Everything is guesswork by a lot of people who want to bignote. Come EOS various players will start getting grumpy about their insufficient deals and such...and so on.

Its not guesswork, the list of free agents is already out! there no guessing there! and my honest opinion is that none of them are worth the coin we have spare (500 - 1mill)

People are screaming for mids and yes, I admit this is something we need. Though we will get this through the draft.

We use the coin where we need to (No A grade mids with plenty of years left worth big coin currently available as free agents)

We use the draft picks where we need to (No big power forwards high up the potential draft pecking order and will be ready to make an instant impact)

It makes sense to throw this money at Cloke, we will have plenty of spare cash once Moloney and Davey's contracts expire. I am sure they are worth more then the $1mill per season.

Look beyond FA...lift your vision.

Beyond FA?

Where we would need to pay both draft picks and coin? Why would we do that for?

We can trade with PA for boak with our pick #4 and pay him jack all, he ll have 2 options, 1 is to go to the PSD and move to GWS when they choose him or accept the low coinage.

We do not need big coin to trade, we need big coin to lure free agents. Thats the difference here that some people do not understand.

We should use our money on free agents, use our draft picks on trades. As there are no free agent mids worth the money then its only logical to use that money on a power forward.

with Moloney (this year) and Davey (next year) off the books, we have 7-800K free.

this one is a no brainer...

And Green another $400K?

And Green another $400K?

Im still living in denial on that one. I hope a miracle occurs and he gets 1 more year. I really really want to see a melbourne player retire on his own terms.

There are players out there. There always were, always is. They just dont pop up til theyre ready. There has always been those cups of coffees at cafes between football types discussing hypotheticals about clients and clubs.

Do we suddenly not do deals and trade like we always have ? Do we not have to give up something in order to get something ? Apparently its all about the Free Agnecy that looms. Or about the slight of hand at the draft table. Its supposedly beholding upon the club to find something where theres nothing i.e pul lrabbits out of hats without spending something.

It simply wont work that way. We now have another path to garner to players but its only that...another. All roads will need to be used.

I get the idea teh Dees will as might spend to get this player or two where thats the method required but i reckon many others gaps in the list will be filled with players from afar ( or near) that might not normally atttract attention as they are more workmanlike at their trade than the 'budding" stars.. They will be players who might simply be offered a bit of a pay rise or simply the promise of a fairer crack at gaining a game than they currently enjoy.. It might also be picking the eyes out of the 'homesick" or kids with a few years on them now and ending contracts who might find a more sympathetic listening by Us than their current employer.

More than one way to skin cats

The next time we'd need to deal with his old man would be when Cloke was 30, seeking a 1 year extension...

Cloke..will stay a Pie.. Eddie will have to ensure it otherwise they are just liek us...i.e anyone can come and take any player . Hes on record as knocking that on the head. Be a big face lose now to have it happen.

5y @ 900g seems the latest goss. Means some belt tightening elsewhere and possibly a lesser light will be sacrificed to maintain the illusion of solidarlity at pieland.

Id rather a Boak type in the middle than another forward just at the moment anyway.

Anyone remember that quote by Eddie

'We are not like Melbourne where you can take players as you like'

I know what your thinking Mighty Demon. I`m thinking the same thing... Revenge.

Wasnt there a meeting of sorts tonight ??

Whats the bet hes signed up .... I still reckon for 4 at about 850....

be interesting to see.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
