not sure who's fault it is Stuie! sick of Melbourne's gutless fade outs and constant excuses "oh we played 3 good Quarters" Truth is the opposition generally only needs to play one half decent quarter to beat us. We are so not the "hardest team to play against" in fact probably the easiest apart from GWS.

Mark Neeld would not have got the Gig at Magpies or Bombers . Yes Buckley and Scottsss can Coach. Observe how the Kangaroos have left Melbourne for Dead. Observe the basic game style . Melbourne ignore the loose player preferring to kick to contest. This is one reason Melbourne don't spread well under Neeld. POLICY!!! Kangaroos do both! Spread and create loose players and not afraid to attack via corridor.

My simple point is the facts dont support what you are saying.

Malthouse proved he was a good coach by reversing what had been a terrrible situation at Collingwood over a lean 2 years the first of which was still pretty dire. Roos got handed a successful club which was not down the bottom of the ladder.

Brad Scott has maintained a status quo at North, 9th , 9th and after a woeful start now they are 8th (remember a few weeks ago the hot seat Brad was in?). The 3 years before he got the gig they were 3rd , 8th and 13th.

Chris Scott got handed a team that in the same period was1st, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 1st and this year down to 7th. His 1st tells us nothing about if he can coach a team up from the bottom as Malthouse did.

Can the Scotts (if we must add them all in) and Buckley coach.? Chris scott is going south, Brad has held their position (which may be a good effort) and anyone who had the collingwood midfield would be acclaimed a good coach.

Just starting to wonder if Malthouse's recommendation was some sort of backhander. In some organisations its best to remove someone not quite up to it by giving them a good referral for another job just to get rid of them.

Neeld has made a lot of mistakes in his first year and many of his decisions have been very puzzling indeed. Which is not helpful for such a fragile club as us which needs strong leadership and direction. A good sea captain knows how to sail with and against the wind. Neeld seems to try to want to change direction of the the wind. If he is any good he will learn and adapt. If not I can't see him surviving with a similar record as now in 12 months.

Truth is, it's not any 1 persons fault, as much as many here seem to want to blame Bailey.

I can't agree that he has been a "miserable player development manager" - because I don't necessarily know the work he has undertaken with certain individuals as a collective. Although I doubt it would be "miserable". I dare say after 186, many would have struggled to be inspirational in a short temporary stint in getting the players up after such a poor showing.Having a dig at a former great servant of the Mfc simply referring to his current job as retirement super is pretty low. He has a pretty important job to fulfil this year and he has the clubs support; dare I say it, most of the membership/supporter base too.

What ever work he has done has amounted to not much at all. Our club has the worst development record in the comp by far.

Is that directed at me?

I've never said it's Neeld's fault, or he's a terrible coach, or anything like that.

All I've said is that he should have done better this year, he should wear his part of the blame for our performances, and 'Landers shouldn't just automatically think he's beyond reproach purely because we like his attitude and what he says.

Good points Robbie. Melbourne were not a 'bottom club" when Neeld took over though. On the contrary we were spruked up as having a list to die for! Were pushing the eight hard and most of us thought this year we could make 8. AFTER Neeld took over we dramatically commenced our race to the bottom.

"get rid of him"? Malthouse was leaving and had no reason to get rid of Neeld. All indications were he was wanted at Collingwood.

As for the sailing analogy its just doesn't fit. But let me try, the ship was rotten and the crew mainly press ganged so he has ordered a rebuild to get it seaworthy and is looking for the right crew. If he didn't do this the ship would continue to ship water for years (as Cam Mooney so astutely said).

Certainly don't blame Bailey. Take the Geelong game out and compare the style of Football we played under him to now under Neeld. Much prefer Bailey. A little like Labor switching from Kevin to Julia?? Big Mistake.

Can I get whatever you are drinking in Thailand!

We were a bottom club and certainly not on the up or pushing for the eight. In the same period for the others coaches above (ie 2007 onwards) we were 14th, 16th, 16th, 12th, 13th!

I think its fair to say we were not exactly at some Olympian height above where we are!

Point taken Robbie though we only fell away toward the end of last season. most pundits rated Melbourne highly especially our young list. we were touted as a final 8 contender under Neeld not a back to square one rebuild! one of my cars needs a rebuild. Melbourne shouldn't have.

This is not correct. Neither was actually available and their records are below.

Roos:

Since 1995, the Sydney Swans are the only club not to have missed the finals in consecutive seasons, only missing the finals in 2000, 2002 and 2009. They were 7th in 2001 and Roos took over mid 2002. He came off a very different base to Neeld.

Malthouse:

1995 – 1999 Collingwood finished 10th, 11th, 10th, 14th and 16th

Malthouse in 2000 took them one slot higher to 15th (Leon Davis, Ben Johnson, Rhyce Shaw and Josh Fraser were recrutied) and then in 2001 (Alan Didak, Shane Wakelin) they went to 9th.

If Neeld had replaced Malthouse or Bomber Thompson his coaching credentials would be very different. Can Buckley or Scott actually coach, that is something that we will only know when they have been in charge for a while not one year with lists at the top of their game.

Wow doesn't what Malthouse took over at Collingwood look very similar to what we are going through now. And he even

had a [censored] first year a bit like Neeld now. Give the bloke a chance maybe you will find he is up to it. Or maybe he won't

but there is not point jumping off him after one year. Come on people if your a supporter show SUPPORT.

Having a signature saying “I believe in Neeld.” at a time when we are 2-14 smacks of evangelism.

Only to someone with an agenda against the first-year coach of the Melbourne Football Club, it does.

To everyone else it's just a show of support based on the logic of wanting his plan to succeed.

Collingwood may have been last in 99 but they has a percentage of 84+ which indicated they were at least competitive. Slightly better than us and we finished above them that year and made the GF next year. Any bottom club with a percentage under 70 is lost in the woods.

Come on RR, enough of this agenda rubbish you try and put on everyone.

Would anyone with a serious agenda with MFC bother trying to get it up and running from Demonland?

Back behind the grassy knoll mate! Lol

A whole host of underperforming people are going to be out of a job at the end of the season and Neeld is going to be the man pulling the trigger. That logically makes him very unpopular in some quarters. Think about it.

Nothing at all to do with conspiracy, Stu. Just reality.

Yes all the power mongers use Demonland to further their purposes... Just last week a poster called RedheadPM was saying Moloney and Rudd should both leave at the end of the season...

It's well known that club officials, players and supporters alike regularly read this website.

If things were how you thought then surely Jose would be in charge of recruiting, Rhino as CEO, and WYL would be our motivational coach...

Come on mate, don't over rate this place.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
