Come on WYL, you sometimes have more sense than that....

We drop out of form players, not players who have played 2 good games in a row.

Silly stuff in this thread.

This year is dusted Stuie. I think Jack would benefit from playing a dominating role in a winning side.

He does need to harden up. He has skills, but doesn't always use them.

I agree with that second part, but it's not a good message to send someone who's performing back to the VFL.

Whoever plays well earns their spot for the next week, that's how healthy competition for spots works and how improvement comes.

Apart from the 2 obvious ones, all the coasting past packs. Commentator summed it up today, "Watts needs to go... he doesn't".

Those guys today loved to single out Watts though, especially Watson, his stupid little disapproving tisk tisk noise at every disposal was really annoying and highlighted his bias against OUR Jack, poor form.

Funny how people stick up for Morton by saying he's an "outside player" but if Watts roves a pack he's soft.

But is he performing or just doing enough?

I want Jack to reach his potential in 2-3 years time. Now it is all about learning.

Season 2012 is gone at 0-9.

I'm over these threads. The kid is clearly trying his hardest and is coming along.

If your a supporter then support. This is helping no body.

If however you want to make dumb arguments about Nic Nat you are free to go barrack for the WCE.

Go Jack! Go the Dees!

Agreed about the season. But he needs to compete against men, get used to the speed and power of the battles, and not just dominate at a lower level which he is too skilled for.

Okay, here is my summarised defense of Jack Watts, and why I think he will be a great player.

I believe that when he was scouted and drafted, our people knew what they were getting. This is evident in his carnival and underage videos.. He was never an aggressive CHF in junior and school football, unlike Hurley etc. He has elite skills and a great footy brain, and these are what allowed him to dominate in the under 18 competitions, etcetera.

I admit that I have had moments of huge frustration with Jack over the past few years, but over the last couple of weeks I have made up my mind that he will be a star, and definitely one of the very best players from that draft. What I see is elite composure through traffic, beautiful skills and very good decision making, which will be improved with time. I think at times he can be a little lazy and lacking of an appetite but this will improve with time and the removal of so called 'leaders' like Colin Sylvia.

His marking is getting much better, even though he might not be crashing packs just yet. To all the people who are ragging on Jack for not charging into every stoppage and winning the contested footy in close - we have players to do that, called inside midfielders. Jack is the ideal player to be hovering outside the contest, I believe. Who would you prefer to be on the recieving end of a handball from a stoppage... Brent Moloney who might bomb it 50 meters straight to an opposition player, or Jack, who could hit up a lead 30 to 40 meters away?

In conclusion, I firmly believe in Jack, and I am liking what I am seeing of him in the back half. Will be a great player, whether it be as a half forward, half back or Goddard like utility (my pick, like many others here). Please have faith in him and get stuck into the players who are in decline, not improving every week.

Can't agree with you on this one mate, unless it is the senior side winning. He is a class above at VFL level and won't gain anything from playing out the year there, win or no win. Keep him working from defence where he is now and the experience earned will be invaluable. If a player spends too much time at a lower level they tend to adapt to that level, this is not what we want.

Great player, but terribly over-opinionated commentator. In fact, didn't he have to apologize to Neeld this week? (Can't remember if it was him, but he had to take back some comments).

Refuses to change his mind, no matter what.

So how about some of the other umpteen players out there.....

Moloney for example, how about some criticism for him, instead of the continual abuse this kid endlessly cops.

I like his opinions. He played against the best at 15 and excelled. JW could learn a lot from Timmy Watson.

Exactly!

There's no threads about Jamar, Moloney, Chip, or Garland who all had horrible days.

He gives some good insight, but it's pretty clear he picks players he doesn't like for whatever reason and will bag them no matter what.

Watts is one of those players.

Moloney is cooked. Done. Jack W has a full career ahead of him. I like Jack but he has got some bad habits.

I think Tim knows Jack has the skills & talent, but gets frustrated watching him because he is about 2% off at times.

No argument here WYL.....

But he still played today and therefore should be judged the same.

Problem is though, he still bags him even when he's playing well, a few times today you could here his disapproving tisk tisk as soon as Jack disposed of the ball before realizing he just hit his target spot on. That's weak to me, just joining the ignorant media bandwagon

unfortunately i missed a fair bit of the game today because i was working. i did manage to see the contest where jack stayed down and warnock marked it. at the time i thought to myself, ppl on demonland are going to have a feast with this. what i considered to be smart, staying down for a crumb when there is already three players flying for a mark, others consider to be soft.

later on in the game, the ball was kicked into the carlton forward line and garland, going back with the flight of the ball flew as the 3rd man up, didnt influence the contest and left his opponent eddie betts alone which resulted in a goal. now i understand betts and watts are completely different players, but if howe (i think) had managed to bring the ball to ground and watts been front and centre for the crumb, everyone would be talking about how smart he was to stay down.

I think your hearing is too good mate!!!

Ch. 7 does suck i agree. But T Watson was a true gun for his entire career. Like Brereton when they talk football i listen.

Dermott does like the sound of his own voice a bit though. Loved his call on how Douglas was going to influence the game as a sub last night, The Crows trump card, it's ok to give a thought but he went on about it. Douglas had no influence and the Pies ran away with the game.

I used to see Dermott on Sunday mornings when he was travelling interstate for commentary duties with 9 and he could never tell me which game he was off to when I asked him. He just couldn't remember.

Great player though as was Timmy.

I judge JW a lot higher than Moloney. Moloney should leave this week IMO. Moloney has had years of chances

See here is where we differ, Moloney is a senior player who has been disgraceful and yet becuase he is who he is, he is ignored for criticism.

While I understand judging Watts higher and my opinion of him is far higher, he is still but one on the field and yet wears more than any one player deserves.

Especially when others should be railed on with at least some vitriol. Watts is our only target it seems and that is staggerinly undeserved.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
