Give me possesions

An alarming stat for us when I remember Barrassi's taunt of a young Gerard Healy v Swans when was it 1983 ?? regarding a quote of " you give me possesions"

The reason I bring this up is each game so far has revealed an alarming trend of the opposition dominating the top 10 posessions getters.

so much in fact I realised we are lucky to occupy 1 maybe 2 of the top 10 possesion getters each game. This has been consistent since round 1.

My question is, how the f$ck can we win with this stat?

Anyway, I thought we could improve tonight but loh and behold Hawthorn had the top 11, yes I1 [censored] you not 11 out of the top 11 possesion getters on the ground before our first Jones with 21 possessions.

I am beginning to wonder what the f$ck is going on??!?!?!

Of course uncontested possesions is the key here for those who watch these games, but geez, that is truelly depressing.

I don't know what to say.

It's the style we play - when it works, it is very efficient in terms of number of possessions.

Direct, no mucking around with it.

We also create a lot of stoppages, with "real" possessions hard to come by (i.e. proper handballs or kicks that will get you a disposal stat).

There are a lot of taps, knock ons, toe pokes, letting the ball dribble out of your hands rather than an effective handball.

To my knowledge none of these garner a stat.

I'm serious.

You honestly don't think our game style is a low-possession one?

Its ridiculous...

Can someone explain how MAGNER, a man who has played all of 5 games with our club, be a leading possession getter consistently every week???

Jones used to be a bonafide scrum ball hack, and now he is our best on field?!?

Sylvia - sure, needs some time back, but seriously...bottom 4 possn getters?

WTF IS GOING ON?!??????

Why do we just switch off for entire quarters??? Clark boots 3, that's enough..we'll declare now...

Same with last quarter v Saints...in the name of Jim, how do you register ZERO for an entire quarter???

Surely game plans don't impact that much on individual talent! Trengove, Grimes, Sylvia, Moloney, Howe, even Davey are ALL better players than most of Carlton's midfield... Karmichael Hunt has a better possn average than half our team... this is illogical!

PLEASE EXPLAIN!!!!

Evidently it is. Pretty sure Neeld explicitly told Sylvia, Petterd, Bennell, Davey, Trengove etc there's no point racking up more than 5-10 possessions that's not how we want to play.

I believe he specifically said to Jamie and Ricky, "I don't want youse to go mad fellas, 4 touches will be plenty". They didn't disappoint.

1 player with over 20 possessions last night - Jones with 21.

11 Hawthorn players had more possessions than our top possession getter. That's half their team.

I'm at a total loss. I just don't know what will be the outcome for this great Club, my Club. I'm not confident.

An interesting stat they mentioned on the telecast was that for the whole season, we had been in front for just 10% of the season.

It's neelds moronic game plan. We consistently kick the ball to a pack and can't win the ball win it fls to the ground.

We might as well be handing the ball back to the opposition.

How many times did we kick the ball out after a minor score only to watch the it return to the back 50 immediately.

How hard is it to find a loose man and kick it the them. Hawthorn were doing it all game

The underperforming boys club havent told him yet "Thats how we do it at Melbourne" give it time and he will be influenced back to the pack

The sooner we clear the dregs from the team and replace them with people who want to play the sooner we will be a team again. Honestly it looks like its too late for many on the list

Correct. If we're going to kick it to a contest, at least have some players to surround it so when it hits the ground, we can clear it (or at least touch the f-ing thing)

And what is worse is that we have not changed our attacking style all season – an it took only Brisbane 10 minutes to work it out on round 1. This is perhaps the biggest blight on Neeld – we have gone from being one of the most attacking teams to being impotent. I want to see Neeld succeed but he must alter the attacking angle of the game plan soon.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
