McLardy's statement is nothing more than hopeful spin for soothing the nerves of the faithful in comparing us to Geelong in 2006. What happened to them was fairly unlikey in the modern game. Anyone thinking we will end up like them is dreaming at this stage. Even if we currently had a better team team the odds would be remote that we could ever replicate their success. We have now regressed behind other similar down and out clubs who haven't achieved real success for a long time. I will maintain my cynicism until I see real points on the board.

Ok, now you have just taking a trip well past the point that McLardy was attempting to make.

It's not a great point he was making but the general theme of the 'Geelong 2006 to 2007' meme is not the years of dominance but the change in fortune from promising, to pathetic, to performers.

McLardy was trying to say that our path isn't linear - similar to Geelong and that faith should remain.

And while a dominant force like Geelong doesn't come around often - the trials they endured before they achieved the flag in 2007 is a common refrain with the best teams of any sport - the rise of success isn't linear.

N0-one predicted Geelong's rise in 2007. Just as they won't be picking the Dees rise.

Denham is a scumbag that is actually one rung below Patrick Smith. No-one buys the Australian so they try to make up for it by being controversial. Big deal.

There's nothing wrong with the article.

It's an opinion piece, which provides facts, makes subjective opinion based on these facts (Melbourne's record, PR fluff, McLardy's comments) to make a judgement.

He's not wrong. The club spins a lot of crap, and sadly, a lot of you fall for it. It's not that, if you disagree you might be making a difference. But acknowledging it and failing to acknowledge it and fall for every little piece of fluff are two different things.

I am not getting excited over anything anyone has to say, be it in the media or from the club. Sure, Neeld's first speech to the players was cool, but talk is cheap.

Let's see if they club's bite is as big as its bark.

They have 5 years. I'm serious.

That may be so but when you have a journalist repeatedly attacking a particular club you have to question their motives. Surely in an organisation as big as the AFL there would have been plenty of other things to write about.

Burgan works for the club...

I agree with what you say but Burgan is employed by the MFC - he isn't a journalistic example...

There aren't many of those around anyway.

Did some great work on the AFL site prior to joining Melbourne. Easily the best draft coverage I've seen.

I would have to say that Greg Denham is a terrible journalist who hates the Melbourne Demons. I have often heard him bagging us out on SEN Radio with Kevin Bartlett. I would take Greg Denham's opinion with a grain of salt!

I also agree that before joining the MFC that Matthew Burgan was a very good reporter for the AFL when it came to draft coverage.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2024

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
