I take issue with this because it isn't just Davey that needs to 'prove worth.'

Aside from Jones, Magner, Clark, Watts, and most of the backline - they all need to prove their worth. So if we are dedicating around 15 positions in our AFL side to those 'proving their worth' - I hardly think allowing Davey to do that in the AFL is 'hitting Rock Bottom.'

Considering his hefty contract i think a trip to Casey is most apt. Davey is our senior player. Not that you would know on the grass. Thus IMO rock bottom hath been finally reached.

I believe that too McQueen, IMO the major reason he was taken to perth was to keep him away from the bun fight that would have occured had he played for Casey.

I think his form over last year and the Brisbane game has been poor however if we are to start winning we must get a couple of the senior players firing.

If that means taking him to Perth to improve things it has my vote.

If Davey can play like crud on a long term contract, and not be sent to the VFL team to work on it, what message does it send? More of the old Hollywood Boulevard mentality to me. As our midfield is going to get spanked again on Saturday i doubt Aaron is going to see too much of the ball anyhow.

A game at Casey where he can dominate i see as a positive for Aaron and the club.

But that's just my view.

But i think Aaron needs a game where he can get 30-40 touches. That would do his confidence a world of good. He has not played well for ages. Long before Mark Neeld walked in. Let's be honest.

I am definitely not one for the scorched earth policy and I will never consign any player still on our list "never to be in a Melbourne jumper again". If you are worthy of game then you get one - its that simple. Good form is rewarded and bad form requires demotion until the day too much bad form adds up and you are axed. Until that day - if your form warrants it - you get a game.

My issue with Aaron is not that he is down on form - most of the team are. Head over the ball has never really been his go - its been about getting the ball handed to him and running and linking. My concern is the perceived lack of effort to try and do the things he is good at.

If Aaron Davey can get a game this week, without going back to Casey to prove his worth to the TEAM then IMO we have officially hit Rock Bottom.

Just shows how barren the last 4 years really have been.

I have a family birthday this saturday so i will rely on Davey reports on here.

Watch him closely, if he doesn't go in hard how can we expect the list to do any better

I must say I totally agree with this and the originator of this thread.

IF you drop a player for poor form, you don't put him back without proving he has regained it.

If it was for a stress related issue he needs to demonstrate that he is over that.

Given there was a "training" session after the game there was no intention to play him there. Even blind Freddie (and you) could see he made the Perth trip under unusual circumstances. I can easily see your reason why he could be at Casey and on emotion alone I would like him there.

But hell, we are sitting poorly at 0-2. We have a game against Richmond who are also 0-2. Its critical that we make every effort to extract a win. We need to play our best side and that side will need someone who can crumb the packs up forward. Given the failure of Blease and Bennett, regretfully its Davey. We then have a draw of games over the next 8 weeks where we are going to find it harder to win. If we dont win on Saturday I can easily see us on form to date being 0-11. We must do everything in our power to notch up 4 points this week.

Given the season to date and given the importance of trying to get some points on the Board, I think there is an important judgement call to be made. The upside is that Davey does actually right the wrongs and he is a value add. The alternative is to put him at Casey and we have no FP crumber. Given his one of the highest paid players we should be seeking every way to turn him around and the Club extract some value.

If we lose this week and Davey and other poor performing senior players continue the poor form then its Casey they go.

Neeld/MFC already has treated him differently by taking him to Perth without any likelihood that they would play him there.

I think he will be picked for the following reasons:

There can only be one reason Davey could be selected.

Your other reasons dont stack up.

1. FWIW, I dont think there has been cleared within MFC. I know its "settled" but i cant for the life of me think that there was any "misunderstanding" with Mifsud. Davey was let down horribly by Mifsud and the AFL. No one will ever know the "truth" of what was said but I bet Davey's choice to speak with Mifsud has damaged his standing with key people at MFC.

2. Cute side steps aren't linebreaker and he was dropped for the WCE game for the nice things he did in the BL game.

3. If he's hounded at Casey, he would be hounded at the MCG. Officially the matter is "settled" and "mediation" has apparently occurred.

5. Unfortunately thats not how selection works and you point 4 should tell you that.

6. I would not think after what has transpired there is anything agreed with Davey. He needs to sing for his supper this week like a couple of senior players.

I could quite see him at Casey if Neeld preferred Bennell or Blease up forward. Its a rotten choice of options.

A message was clearly sent to Davey when he was dumped from leadership.

Davey has said "something" about the Coach behind his back.

For better or worse we have him till the end of 2013.

At his best he has been one of the Dees best players, he had speed and his kicking to position was amazing to watch.

For whatever reason we have not seen to much from him since he was injured in 2010.

IMO we probably will not see him ever again back to those previous levels.

However at 80% of 2010 he is better than the those who could replace him.

I believe the FD will try to get him back there for most of 2012.

In the end do we have a choice?

Not really we can trade him. I'd like to know if his contract was front ended?

He still has this year to prove he has the passion to play for the Mighty Dees.

Nutster ... conviction is one of those invaluable commodities that cost nothing.

What's Neeld's stated goal? ... 'to make us the hardest team to play against in the league'. Nothing fuzzy there. Conviction.

There are 18 teams vying for this thing in a cut-throat game of who dares wins. Therefore, logic would dictate that we need players who are prepared to hit, scratch, bite, fight and claw with their fingernails at every single contest.

Have you seen Aaron Davey do that lately? ... Nor have I. It's why he was dropped.

So, let him demonstrate on an empty park in Cranbourne that he has what it takes to play for the New Melbourne.
