Fitzpatrick did his ankle on the wing. Was supported of the ground.

Sellar was better than I expected from the training reports. He has some pretty decent pace and agility for a guy his size. Made a very nice play right at the start calling for the ball on the boundary, running around two players and delivering. He's got a great build too. I can see him getting some game time this year.

While Fitzpatrick was soundly beaten in the ruck, I was surprised at how well he competed. He rucked the entire game against Jamar and managed to make a decent contest most of the time. He also took a nice contested mark in the forward line and slotted it.

One player was helped from the ground with what looked like an ankle, but I have no idea who he was.

A nice surprise to hear about Sellars good form.

Fitzypatrick, I reckon over the next 2 years, this & 2013, we'll see him develop physically into a fine athlete.

He's still just a kid, as a lean beanpole, and will grow & mature.

This IMO, is a good timeframe fit,,,, with the Russian & Gawn/Spencer...

Magner didn't play. Coush was decent and came on really well in the last eighth. Kel Lawrence got a nice crumbing goal but I didn't notice him much.

Thanks everyone for their observations for those of us that couldnt get down there...

I went along to the intraclub match today, and though it was very interesting to watch, it had little to say about our game plan etc...

There were a lot of long bombs into the forward line - actually I only saw two forward line leads honoured for the entire time - but feel this was to practice something that was planned beforehand. Sometimes it was a long blind kick to a very packed area. It looked like there was a direct practice of pack marking and crumbing, but I could be way off.

There was a lot of boundary play, and the corridor was often ignored even if two players were unattended in there.

Highlights:

Watts pass to Tom MacDonald, at full pace, on his left foot, across his body. BUt I agree with a note above that a few times Watts seemd to hold back.

Blease was magnificent, whether running away from congestion, running through it, or breaking through the wing area.

Morton was very good. Poise, control and he went in really hard at some stoppages. Looked very comfortable down back.

Bloke in front of me said "Fitzpatrick looks like a young giraffe" and got a general laugh. Very accurate too!

Clark's pack presence. Chucks himself at it and if he doesn't mark it, he splits the pack and creates something at ground level.

Jones, Moloney, Bate, Couch, Nicholson having a red hot crack and showing stoppage toughness.

Tynan. For a first run he showed intensity, ability to read the play, and could think on his feet.

Lowlights

Fitzpatrick injued. I think it ws his ankle but difficult to see.

The amount of players who could have had a run and didn't. I know the intraclub is a part of the training program, but once again the club has missed out on an opportunity to build supporter enthusiasm.

Was probably a better spectacle than I thought it was going to be today.

The 7 minute periods were annoying but there were some nice plays and decent skills on show.

- Clark is a crowd favourite already, just imposes himself and splits the pack like Neita used to do - which none of our existing forwards could last year.

- Watts struggled in contested situations but was good out in space.

- Crouch got a bit of the ball but was angry at himself for kicking a couple of long helicopters and turning it over.

- Blease super impressive. Backs himself to outpace anyone and does. His kicking was spot on, kicked a really nice goal too.

- Garland looking confident and assured - expert body work and was rarely beaten.

- Sellar probably just beat Cook when he was on him but is probably 20 kgs heavier. Cook battled hard, he is very competitive and fights tooth and nail for the ball which is great to see for the future.

- Josh Tynan was promising, granted a lot of his possies were uncontested but he didn't put a foot wrong and even courageously ran backwards to cut in front of a marauding Clark and punch away a pinpoint pass to him. Backed his skills.

- Joel Macdonald deserves credit for the way he played today.

- Moloney berates his teammates too much.

- I love the straight lines that Bail runs, he's just a machine.

- Davey didn't want to be there, his body language was awful from my perspective.

- Loving Stef's attack on the ball all over the ground. He's turning into a pearler.

-Fitzpatrick looked to be laughing on the bench after his injury, shouldn't be too bad.

- Casey is not a pleasurable car trip.

Feeling more confident about our skills in relation to the new game plan after today. Feeling REALLY confident about our forward line. Clark may be the recruit of the year.

The trip may suck but the ground is pretty good. Could do with another grandstand but otherwise it's a very nice facility.

So when do we think it will be obvious what our 'game plan' is? Ive been watching the Wizard Cup games tonight, and they're high pressure affairs that otherwise dont really seem to have any clearly definable newly structured game plans.

The talk has been of mimicking the Pies gameplan of the last two years, but really is that a bit too introspective? The game changes quickly nowadays, and once coaches have enough time to analyse and successfully negate certain tactics, such as 'Clarkos Cluster', they quickly become redundant. See also the Brisbane Roars game style in the A-League that saw them win 30 odd games on the trot, only for opposition coaches to work on adaptable counter measures.

I just dont know if some of our boys have the footskills under pressure to execute some of the short, accurate passing to pull off the wide game.

This season certainly shapes up for mine as one of the most intriguing and anticipated for some years...

It was a good hit out, I think the 8 eighths was needed due to the no interchange, a couple of players swapped at the breaks but of the 32 odd players that played only a couple had a rest. We didn't use any Casey players and he had a number of players missing.

A couple of changes in our set up, we always had two forwards in our attacking half, they didn't push up as a high giving us options for the long kick out of off the backline. On the defensive side it seemed we always had a couple players behind the forwards which meant we didn't get opened up if the other team worked through the zone. That was good to see, to many easy goals last year because we had opposition forwards behind our zone.

The other highlight was the body use to try and create space for your team mate. This was all over the ground and very good to see.

Our forward structure we will be starting with three talls in our forward line if fit expect to see Watts, Clark and Martin/Jamar up forward.

What about Bate?Where did he play and how did he go?

Bate was in the midfield. He was OK, not a standout.

Any sign of "The Great One.

Hard to take a lot out of the game in terms of individual performances, but the big thing to note was a lot of long kicking to forwards in the forward line. A lot of posters on here will be disappointed to hear this.

Sounds like we could be using elements of both Geelong and Collingwood gameplans. I.e. kicking deeper to marking targets in the forward line and avoiding the centre corridor at all costs.

I was impressed with the way the players set up at stoppages. Both Bate and Green played well on the wing (and after what Neeld said on SEN this morning, I suspect Green will play most of the season there).

Was impressed by Sellar and Tynan (particularly later in the day). Blease's pace was outstanding and he made mainly good decisions.

The very short haired Nicho also showed great pace early but his disposal was poor. Bail kicked OOB on the full 3 times.

Watts did not do enough, but what he did was 1st class, and Clark's leap is impressive.

Morton was good and competed well. Joel Mac worked hard. Tom Mc did some really good things and slotted a nice goal.

I did not like Davey's body language. Lawrence could be very good - showed good acceleration and tackled well.

Dunn was also good.

The usually reliable were reliable.

The stanzas were pretty open except for the 3rd which was nearly all stoppages.

As mentioned by others, the corridor was mainly neglected.

I really wanted to see Magner play, but maybe next week.

I am very excited about this year.

Funny this was raised. I went to last years intra club game and Beamer gave a young fella (can't recall who, could have even been a Casey top up player) an all mighty spray. From my, quite close, vantage point it seemed unfair and was by any standard well out of order. During that same game he drove another young fella into the ground and was generally mouthy to all and sundry.

Hardly positive leadership was my thinking and i reckon this trait may be one of the reasons he isn't in the LG. That and the fact he appears not to be the sharpest tool in the shed, which is in contrast to this years LG if their interviews on dee tv are any guide (which seems to indicate they are a pretty thoughtful, reflective bunch, not a bunch of pumped up yobs)

Harsh on Beamer. Just putting positive pressure on junior players imo.

Moloney is the first to go in to bat for his team mates in the real deal. True team man imo.
