Agree with this and Spencer's stocks rising.

But, Jake will still have to break into the 22 first.

Not necessarily. Jamar could have an injury free year and Spencer could dominate for Casey. Before the Gawn injury Spencer, off a knee reco, was going to be battling with Gawn for Casey's #1 ruck spot, now he's got a pretty clear run at it if he can manage his recovery well.

Our current #1 ruck candidates are Jamar, Spencer and Gawn.

- Even if Jamar has a solid 2012, his games record since 2006 is 22, 10, 14, 7, 22, 15, not bullet-proof.

- Gawn will be just recovering from his injury when Spencer needs to be recontracted (and Max Bailey had 3 knee recos)

- We don't want Clark to be #1 ruckman

- Fitzy is a long way off #1 ruckman consideration

All this points to re-signing Spencer if he has a good year even if it is only at Casey

The thing that would change the equation is if Martin develops his credentials as a #1 ruckman this year - that would make a lot things easier for us

I reckon Martin has showed he is definitely capable of being a #1 ruck - vs Essendon 2011 - did a very, very good job as first ruck against Hille, Ryder and Bellchambers. Wouldn't want him there permanently but he could cover for injuries for quite a while with help from Clark/Sellar/Tom McDonald

I have agreed Spencer's stocks have risen given the nature of Gawn's injury. First things first though, he will need to manage his recovery well. He will need to play with his apparent clear run at Casey seniors. Which may well be an absolute monty. I think he will be re-contracted regardless given the circumstances. How much his stocks rise and what interest he may attract from other clubs will depend on him showing something. Whether he can dominate for Casey or play a role if Jamar misses and play it well, is another thing. But if he does either, yes his stocks will rise further.

Like Gawn, he is very competitive and as he has shown in the past he can take contested marks as well as being mobile for his size. I reckon he'll manage to put his best foot forward and at a hunch may make things interesting from a list management of view. But ultimately, it will depend on form.

Jamar is to Martin what Gawn is to Spencer. the former gets injured and the latter gets the chance to prove themselves. admittedly spencer will have to do it at casey level first but there is no such thing as having too many ruckmen. Don't think we should ever get rid of ruckmen unless they are truly awful at which point efforts should be made to replace them with a better big man. From reports the Demons are now the tallest team in the competition but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have a solid stable of specialised rucks. In my opinion it is the hardest hole to fill if you lose a couple to injury.

Also Fitzpatrick could be a smoky people seem to be forgetting to challenge spencer.

Time to throw a spanner in - Davey to be traded end of the 2012 season. Won't fill a role in Neeld's structure a la Medhurst at Collingwood.

And before you all boo and hiss, we haven't seen much out of him in two years in my opinion, and it's an opinion I maintain - I think he's played one good game in the last two years, and that was early 2010.

not sure what value we would get for a 30yo Davey if he has a bad season this year which would make 2 [censored] years in a row

Edit- Didn't realise s_hit would be censored...can you write the word crap?

Edit 2- Apparently you can write the word crap...seems a silly difference

Trade him to GWS for a compo pick like the doggies did? They could use him.

Gawn could be cut. 20 years old with two knee reconstructions, if it looks like his knees are not going to cope with AFL he should be moved on. Anyone know his contract status?

Gawn stays. Go Gawn. Stay.

Wow. Max Bailey and the Ox say hello.

Gee the season hasn't started and already we are cutting blokes off our list. Lets just see how the season progresses first. Lets get behind the players and debate this later in the year

These are things Harrington is paid to think about, and if he is thinking about them - so are we.

And so should Demonland.

It's your right to think that, it's your right.

You are most likely wrong but that doesn't matter does it?

As long as you get to overreact, and claim as stupid something so imperative as list management...

I don't think anyone here is claiming to have a crystal ball and absolute certainty on who is going to get the chop, but it's the off-season and we need something to discuss. Might as well be something that is relevant to the team. Personally, I am really looking forward to seeing how it pans out over the course of the year and how close people came to picking the unlucky players.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
