Training - Friday 11 November, 2011

Is there anyone there who can give us a rundown of training.

At Gosch's Paddock now.

i went past them on the train into work this morning....they were all out at 9.50am.

I was at training today and Neeld & Todd Viney joined in the clearance/ stoppages drill. They were getting stuck into a few of the younger guys. Gysberts got hit with some big hits from Viney while Neeld was getting stuck into him off the ball.

Jeez that would be an awkward situation. Get the rough stuff going, yet can't go as hard as you'd like, otherwise you just might be on the outer with those 2 coaches, lol.

Not all players were out on the track and those that were there were all doing different drills & tasks. What I really enjoyed was seeing all the coaches getting in and working with the different groups...like the photo above shows. And from the sidelines you can hear Neeld as well.

Aaron was focussed on short sprints on his own for the whole session. The rehab guys were doing different lap running drills...well that's what Ricky said when I laughed with him about being overtaken by Grimes!

LJ is back strolling, jogging laps....dare I say, taking it easy. He's about the only player I can say that for!

When is the next open training session??

Expected to be at Gosh'sPaddock around 10 on Monday next.

anyone go?

Yes I agree what is going on with Col. If he was fit to play in the IR series and now not training what the [censored] is going on?

My guess is (based on nothing other than his absence) that he has been banned from training with the player group a la Steve Johnson, Stokes, etc.

Just not publicly stated because it creates an unnecessary media spotlight.

Part of his punishment - prove that he wants to play AFL enough to train on his own.

Probably not though.

I've not been to training so don't know if he has been running in the rehab group or not.

I went to training 3 times during the last pre-season. On every occasion Col was in the modified training group. I don't know if he has injuries that require on-going management, although i admit it's odd he was available for the IR series.

I believe when he was drafted his weakness was his endurance. The funny thing is - he looks really fit. He's 'cut' and he never seems out of shape.

Maybe he prefers working out with those Zumba dance videos to burning his legs and lungs on the running track.

According to the article in the Hun today (at the bottom) Sylvia must complete his responsible drinking course before being allowed to return to the main group.

Just saw that too. That clarifies things. Let's hope he has a great pre-season.

Ya noticed that as well. How long ago was the incident? How often do they run those courses?

I wondered if this was the case.

I don't like it. He copped the fine and the suspension.

If he's able to go full tilt and get flogged on the track and have his best pre-season ever, surely that would benefit everyone?

Love these training updates guys.....thanks.

Neeld needs to get lower. What kind of examples is this?

Just an off thought. What's with the new balance singlet and shorts but Nike Shoes?

Players can have their own boots sponsors, so they would provide runners too.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
