Yoda,

Perhaps next time you bump into any of the "brothers", ask them what Aaron has done for them on and off the field. The leadership tag runs deeper than what you see on your television.

I think if Aaron has a repeat of this season's efforts he will remain on the outer and surely he knows this so it's all in his hands.

And Yoda- if you want us to buy into the premise that you are in fact Yoda you must start talking like him. Otherwise I'll assume no allegiance to the Jedi and you are just another deluded muggle.

I'm sure he's done plenty for them. My point is that he needs to start doing more for himself, or that stuff will become largely irrelevant and he'll be out the door.

Adapting to modern Aussie parlance ... for the Demonland masses ... trying I am.

Remember Sloonie ... assumption leads to ignorance, ignorance leads to suffering, suffering leads to anger ... and anger will get you banned

None of the "brothers" had a great season. I hope Aaron is not leading them by example.

If Davey bounces back next season , we all win - C'mon Aaron - lift ya game !

Fair point ... possibly. But my memory is that he was on song until that QB 2010 game and then faded. It would be interesting to know how many of those votes he polled prior to that match.

There's this from his wikipedia entry ... "Davey's 2010 season was not as successful as the year before and, although he remained one of Melbourne's better players and their main playmaker, he was not as damaging as the previous season".

Is 19 touches per match (2010) so great for your 'main playmaker' and possibly highest paid player?

Despite our thousand year lifespans, us Jedi are largely immune to Alzheimers Rpfc.

You are quoting Wikipedia?

lol

That was probably written by someone on here...

The guy had a good 2010. And an awful 2011, but he can bounce back.

Eye of the beholder stuff. I think it's a pretty fair assessment. You're welcome to lodge a challenge to it if you feel so aggrieved. No-one else has.

He is one of the worst performers when tagged. An ordinary player in Carazzo has toweled him up consistently.

After this year he can only be better, someone has got to show him how to get better with tags.

If I want to know the capital city of Paraguay, I will look up Wikipedia.

If I want to judge the 2010 season and future prospects of Aaron Davey I will stick with own views, my mates, and selected posters on Demonland.

That's mighty good but I'm concerned that you'd need Wikipedia to know the capital of Paraguay.

For $100 .. what is Asuncion!

A player of great talent and, lately, little application. Looked injured for the whole of 2011. Make or break season ahead. I would like nothing more than to see the old Flash resurrect himself. I have my doubts, but hope I'm wrong.

Innovator whose game abandoned him last couple of seasons.

Being played behind the ball as a "quarterback" saw opposition work him out...IMO he needs to go back into the forward line and regain confidence.

At the same time, AD doesn't deserve to be flogged for a very ordinary year as a play maker in a team with no plan and next to no play. Let's reconvene the court martial in June 2012

Only last season.

Hardly, if Davey averages 19 touches, 4 tackles, finishes 4th in the Bluey and gets 10 Brownlow votes next year - as he did in 2010 - we will all be lauding his renaissance.

Exactly. Nothing like letting the truth get in the way of a good story - Davey was one of our best in 2010.

No doubt he played some ripping footy early. I'd wager he polled most of those Brownlow votes before QB2010. But he wasn't much chop from then on. Just okay, and that's not good enough from a top 3 player. It's a decline in output.

If those stats do for you from the side's prime mover then you are too easily impressed

So you have walked back on half a year you previously claimed was disappointing, a half that is now 'ripping' but I am still wrong and somehow 'too easily impressed' after pointing out you misjudged his 2010?

Sometimes you should just accept the mea culpa and leave it at that, RR...

I'd rather he play 22 consistently good to very good games of footy (2009) than 4 or 5 blinders then rest on his laurels and fade like he did in 2010. That's a disappointing year IMO. How is that a walk back or a mea culpa?

I reckon Flash could play till hes 35 if he was handled properly by coaching staff. He could afford to lose a yard or 2 of pace and still be ultra quick. Hes not the kind of guy that should get heavy tags and would benefit more than anyone by some class around him. Cant speak for his headspace but if he wants it his biggest contributions to the club could still be in front of him. Is a matchwinner and if i were coaching id love to have him in my forward half. Maybe im just longing for the past but i think hes got a lot to offer.

I think you are longing for the past.....

He may well play til he is well past 35yo but it wont be in the AFL.

If he cant handle heavy tags, (lets face it he cant handle any tags period) then he cannot afford to lose one iota of pace. He is at the crossroads at the moment and needs to redeem himself.

At the moment he struggles win his own ball, cannot stand physical pressure and displays inexplicable immaturity on the ground....and he is a team leader.

If Neeld seriously walks the talk then Davey would not want to display the 2011 vintage stuff at all.

I think some people fail to appreciate the toll that injuries have on players, particularly those with a small frame like flash, who have been battered and bashed for 8 years or more. If he can regain full fitness, he's a champion player, but if not, he will struggle, not through a lack of effort. I'm hoping he has a great year, but if he doesn't I will not be rubbishing him, as I know he will be trying his guts out.

Posted

He can't handle a tag as others have said. But when he is tagged his head drops and basically he's resigned to the fact that today is not going to be his day. When not tagged he is a wonderfully creative player who delivers the ball so well (best in our team).

Unfortunately opposition coaches have quickly jumped on that so now at his age with reduced pace if he is not prepared to work hard all the time when he is tagged then he is of no use to the team. Work hard or play for Casey - end of story.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
